Removing

Note

The trim cannot be removed without being damaged.

Carry out following work:
– Press spreader pins -5- slightly into clips -3- -arrow a-.

Note

Spreader pins -5- remain in grommets -4-.

– Pull out clips -3-.
– Pull trim cover -1- with securing pins -2- out of grommets.
– Take spreader pins -5- out of grommets -4-.

Carry out following work:

Note

Check grommets -4- for damage and renew if necessary.

– Place trim -1- against B-pillar.
– Press trim securing pins -2- into grommets -4-.
– Insert clips -3- and press spreader pins -5- into clips

-arrow a-.

Side member extension “GLI”

Note

The removal and installation sequence is for the left side member

(sill) extension. The removal and installation of the right side

member (sill) extension is similar.

Carry out following work:
– Release locking tabs of clips -3- and remove clips from side

member extension -1- as far as stop -arrow a-.

– Heat up adhesive tape -4- on top of side member extension

-1- using hot air blower -V.A.G 1416- .

– Carefully remove adhesive tape -4- between side member and

side member extension -1- (e.g. with a plastic wedge).

– Push side member extension -1- forwards -arrows b- until it

can be removed from securing screws -2- (qty. 5) -arrows c-.

Note

Screws for side member extension are corrosion-resistant. No secondary treatment is required.

♦

If the screw is overtightened it is essential to replace it with a “black” oversize screw.

Carry out following work:
• No holes present for securing screws.
– Measure out required holes for securing screws using table

below ( 

⇒ page 285

 ).

– Use punch to centre measured points for holes and pilot-drill

holes with 1.5 mm drill bit.
