ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION

1. REMOVE UPPER STEERING COLUMN COVER 

2. REMOVE LOWER STEERING COLUMN COVER 

3. INSPECT TILT MOTOR

(a) Disconnect the connector A from the multiplex tilt and telescopic

ECU.

(b) Connect the positive (+) battery terminal to terminal 10 (TIM+) and the negative battery terminal to

Steering wheel tilts up.

(c) Connect the negative (-) battery terminal to terminal 10 (TIM+) and the positive battery terminal to

Steering wheel tilts down.

4. INSPECT TELESCOPIC MOTOR

STEERING COLUMN: STEERING COLUMN ASSEMBLY (for Power...

(a) Disconnect the connector B from the multiplex tilt and telescopic

ECU.

(b) Connect the positive battery terminal to terminal 2 (TEM+) and the negative battery terminal to terminal 6

Steering column contracts.

(c) Connect the negative battery terminal to terminal 2 (TEM+) and the positive battery terminal to terminal 6

1. PRECAUTION

NOTICE:

After turning the ignition switch off, waiting time may be required before disconnecting the cable from the

battery terminal. Therefore, make sure to read the disconnecting the cable from the battery terminal
notice before proceeding with work 

 

.

2. PLACE FRONT WHEELS FACING STRAIGHT AHEAD

3. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL

CAUTION:

Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to prevent

airbag and seat belt pretensioner activation.

4. REMOVE LOWER NO. 3 STEERING WHEEL COVER 

5. REMOVE LOWER NO. 2 STEERING WHEEL COVER 

6. REMOVE STEERING PAD 

7. REMOVE STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY

(a) Remove the steering wheel set nut.

(b) Put matchmarks on the steering wheel and main shaft.

(c) Using SST, remove the steering wheel.

8. REMOVE LOWER STEERING COLUMN COVER

(a) Remove the 2 screws.

(b) Detach the 2 claws to remove the lower steering column cover.

9. REMOVE UPPER STEERING COLUMN COVER

(a) Detach the 4 clips.

(b) Detach the claw to remove the upper steering column cover.

10. REMOVE TILT AND TELESCOPIC MANUAL SWITCH

(a) Disconnect the connector.

(b) Using a screwdriver, detach the claw and pull out the tilt and telescopic switch.

NOTICE:

Pushing on the claw too hard will break the claw.

HINT:

Tape the screwdriver tip before use.
