ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION

1. INSPECT COOLANT LEAK

HINT:

(1) Check that engine coolant is not dripping from the water pump assembly.

HINT:

If engine coolant is dripping, replace the water pump assembly.
If engine coolant is not dripping, perform the following check.

(b) Inspect the area around the water pump assembly.

HINT:

towel.

HINT:

If the thin paper towel is wet, replace the water pump
assembly.
If the thin paper towel is dry, thoroughly clean the area
around the water pump assembly.

2. INSPECT WATER PUMP ASSEMBLY

(a) Remove the fan and generator V belt 

 

.

(b) Turn the pulley and check that the water pump bearing

moves smoothly and quietly.

If necessary, replace the water pump assembly.

(c) Install the fan and generator V belt

REMOVAL

1. REMOVE NO. 1 ENGINE UNDER COVER 

2. DRAIN ENGINE COOLANT 

3. REMOVE V-BANK COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY 

4. REMOVE AIR CLEANER HOSE ASSEMBLY 

5. REMOVE AIR CLEANER ASSEMBLY 

6. DISCONNECT INLET RADIATOR HOSE

7. DISCONNECT OUTLET RADIATOR HOSE

8. REMOVE FAN SHROUD 

9. REMOVE NO. 1 WATER BY-PASS HOSE 

10. DISCONNECT WATER BY-PASS PIPE (w/ Oil

Cooler)

(a) Disconnect the No. 6 water by-pass hose.

(b) Remove the 3 bolts.

(c) Disconnect the water by-pass pipe with water hose.

11. REMOVE WATER INLET HOUSING

(a) Disconnect the No. 2 and No. 3 air hoses.

(b) Disconnect the air pump connector.

(c) Disconnect the air pump connector clamp's holder.

(d) Using a clip remover, detach the wire harness clamp.

(e) Disconnect the No. 5 water by-pass hose.

(f) Remove the air tube bracket bolt.

(g) Remove the 3 bolts, water inlet housing and No. 3 water

by-pass hose.

(h) Remove the gasket from the water pump.

12. REMOVE WATER PUMP PULLEY

(a) Using SST, hold the water pump pulley.

(b) Remove the 4 bolts and water pump pulley.

13. REMOVE WATER PUMP ASSEMBLY

(a) Remove the 8 bolts, water pump and gasket.

INSTALLATION

1. INSTALL WATER PUMP ASSEMBLY

(a) Install a new gasket and the water pump with the 8 bolts

shown in the illustration.

Torque:

for bolt A -

47 N·m {479 kgf·cm, 35ft·lbf}

for bolt B -

23 N·m {235 kgf·cm, 17ft·lbf}

for bolt C -

20 N·m {204 kgf·cm, 15ft·lbf}

2. INSTALL WATER PUMP PULLEY

(a) Temporarily install the pulley with the 4 bolts.

(b) Using SST, hold the pulley and tighten the 4 bolts.

SST: 09960-10010

09962-01000

09963-01000

Torque:

21 N·m {214 kgf·cm, 15ft·lbf}

3. INSTALL WATER INLET HOUSING

(a) Install a new gasket to the water pump.
