CHECK ACCELERATOR POSITION SENSOR POWER SUPPLY CIRCUIT

1. Turn ignition switch “OFF”.
2. Disconnect accelerator work unit harness connector.
3. Turn ignition switch “ON”.
4. Check voltage between accelerator work unit terminal 2 and ground with CONSULT-II or tester.

GO TO 4.

Repair open circuit or short to ground or short to power in harness or connectors.

CHECK ACCELERATOR POSITION SENSOR GROUND CIRCUIT FOR OPEN AND SHORT

1. Turn ignition switch “OFF”.
2. Loosen and retighten engine ground screw.

3. Check harness continuity between accelerator work unit terminal 3 and engine ground. Refer to Wiring Diagram.

Continuity should exist.

4. Also check harness for short to ground and short to power.

CHECK ACCELERATOR POSITION SENSOR INPUT SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR OPEN AND SHORT

1. Disconnect ECM harness connector.
2. Check harness continuity between ECM terminal 23 and accelerator work unit terminal 4. Refer to Wiring Diagram.

Continuity should exist.

3. Also check harness for short to ground and short to power.

OK or NG

OK (with CONSULT-II)

GO TO 6.

OK (without CONSULT-II)

GO TO 7.

Repair open circuit or short to ground or short to power in harness or connectors.

CHECK ACCELERATOR POSITION SENSOR

With CONSULT-II

1. Reconnect all disconnected harness connectors.
2. Turn ignition switch “ON”.
3. Select “DATA MONITOR” mode with CONSULT-II.
4. Check the indication of “ACCEL POS SEN” under the following conditions.

GO TO 8.

Replace accelerator pedal assembly.

CHECK ACCELERATOR POSITION SENSOR

Without CONSULT-II

1. Reconnect all disconnected harness connectors.
2. Turn ignition switch “ON”.
3. Check voltage between ECM terminal 23 and ground under the following conditions.

RESET ACCELERATOR POSITION SENSOR IDLE POSITION MEMORY

With CONSULT-II

1. Turn ignition switch “ON”.
2. Select “OFF ACCEL PO SIG” in “ACTIVE TEST” mode with CONSULT-II.
3. Touch “CLEAR”.

GO TO 10.

RESET ACCELERATOR POSITION SENSOR IDLE POSITION MEMORY

Without CONSULT-II

1. Start engine and warm it up to normal operating temperature.
2. Let engine idle for 10 minutes.

CHECK INTERMITTENT INCIDENT

Refer to “TROUBLE DIAGNOSIS FOR INTERMITTENT INCIDENT”, EC-78.

INSPECTION END

CHECK ACCELERATOR POSITION SWITCH POWER SUPPLY CIRCUIT

1. Turn ignition switch “OFF”.
2. Disconnect accelerator work unit harness connector.
3. Turn ignition switch “ON”.
4. Check voltage between accelerator work unit terminal 6 and ground with CONSULT-II or tester.

Harness for open or short between accelerator work unit and ECM relay

Repair harness or connectors.

CHECK ACCELERATOR POSITION SWITCH INPUT SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR OPEN AND SHORT

1. Turn ignition switch “OFF”.
2. Disconnect ECM harness connector.
3. Check harness continuity between accelerator work unit terminal 5 and ECM terminal 31. Refer to Wiring Diagram.

Continuity should exist.

4. Also check harness for short to ground and short to power.

Repair open circuit or short to ground or short to power in harness or connectors.

CHECK ACCELERATOR POSITION SWITCH

Check continuity between accelerator work unit terminals 5 and 6 under the following conditions.

Replace accelerator pedal assembly.
