WARNING:

Always observe the following items for preventing accidental activation.
• Before servicing, turn ignition switch OFF, disconnect battery negative terminal and wait for 3 min-

utes or more (discharges electricity held in the additional power supply circuit of the air bag diagno-
sis sensor unit).

• Before disconnecting the air bag sensor unit harness connector, be sure to disconnect each har-

ness connector of the air bag modules, seat belt pre-tensioners and lap pre-tensioner to prevent air
bag deployment by static electricity and seat belt pre-tensioner operation.

• Never use air tools or electric tools for servicing (prevents the air bag diagnosis sensor unit from

activating unexpectedly due to vibration).

REMOVAL

NOTE:
Before replacing air bag diagnosis sensor unit, perform “Before Replace ECU” of “Read / Write Configuration”
to save or print current vehicle specification. Refer to

SRC-31, "Description"

.

1.

Disconnect the connector of all air bag modules, seat belt pre-tensioners and lap pre-tensioner.

2.

Remove center console assembly.
• LHD models: Refer to

IP-25, "Removal and Installation"

.

• RHD models: Refer to

IP-52, "Removal and Installation"

.

3.

Disconnect air bag diagnosis sensor unit harness connectors.

4.

Remove air bag diagnosis sensor unit mounting bolt, nuts, and then remove air bag diagnosis sensor unit.

Harness clip bracket

CAUTION:

• To prevent damage to the air bag diagnosis sensor unit, never

impact it

• Replace the diagnosis sensor unit if it is dropped or sustains

an impact.

• Replace the diagnosis sensor unit of deployed driver air bag module, deployed passenger air bag

module, deployed side air bag module, deployed curtain air bag module, deployed seat belt pre-ten-
sioner or deployed lap pre-tensioner.

INSTALLATION

Note the following items, and then install in the reverse order of removal.

CAUTION:

• Never reuse mounting bolts after removal, replace with new bolts.
• Never damage the harness while installing.
• Be sure to perform “After Replace ECU” of “Read / Write Configuration” or “Manual Configuration”

when replacing air bag diagnosis sensor unit. Refer to

SRC-31, "Description"

.

• After installation is complete, perform self-diagnosis using CONSULT or air bag warning lamp, if the

system is normal and

PAST

 of

Self Diagnostic Result

 is indicated, always perform

ERASE

 of

Self Diagnostic Result

 using CONSULT. Refer to

SRC-28, "Work Flow"

.

• After the work is completed, check that no system malfunction is detected by air bag warning lamp.

DRIVER AIR BAG MODULE

DRIVER AIR BAG MODULE : Deployment

INFOID:0000000010927744

DEPLOYMENT OF DRIVER AIR BAG MODULE (OUTSIDE OF VEHICLE)

1.

Unless the vehicle is being scrapped, deploying the air bag in
the vehicle is not recommended. This may cause damage to the
vehicle interior.
Anchor air bag module bracket (SST: KV99105300) (A) in a vice
secured to a firm foundation deployment.

2.

Using wire (D), secure driver air bag module

 to air bag mod-

ule bracket (SST: KV99105300) (A) at two places.

CAUTION:

Use wire of at least 1.0 mm (0.039 in) diameter.

3.

Firmly secure air bag module bracket (SST: KV99105300) with
driver air bag module attached, in a vise.

4.

Connect deployment tool adapter (SST: KV99110500) (C) to
driver air bag module and deployment tool (SST: KV99104600)
(B).

5.

Connect the test pin at the tip of deployment tool (SST:
KV99104600) (B) to both terminals of 12V battery (A), and then
the air bag module deploys.

CAUTION:

When deploying the driver air bag module, stand at least 5.0
m (16.4 ft) away from the air bag module.

• Never apply water to a deployed air bag module or seat belt

pre-tensioner or lap pre-tensioner.

• Wear gloves when handling a deployed air bag module or seat

belt pre-tensioner or lap pre-tensioner.

• No poisonous gas is produced upon air bag module deploy-

ment. However, be careful not to inhale gas since it irritates
the throat and can cause choking.

• Never disassemble air bag module, seat belt pre-tensioner

and lap pre-tensioner.

• Air bag module, seat belt pre-tensioner and lap pre-tensioner

cannot be reused.

• Wash your hands clean after the work is complete.

PASSENGER AIR BAG MODULE

PASSENGER AIR BAG MODULE : Deployment

INFOID:0000000010927746

DEPLOYMENT OF PASSENGER AIR BAG MODULE (OUTSIDE OF VEHICLE)

1.

Make 8.5 mm (0.335 in) diameter hole

 in air bag module

bracket (SST: KV99105300) (A) at the position shown in figure.

2.

Firmly secure air bag module bracket (SST: KV99105300) (A) in
a vise.

3.

Insert bolt (D) through air bag module bracket and passenger air
bag module

lower side holes, and fix then with nut.

4.

Connect deployment tool (SST: KV99104600) (B) and deploy-
ment tool adapter (SST: KV99110500) (C) to passenger air bag
module.

5.

Connect the test pin at the tip of deployment tool (SST:
KV99104600) (B) to both terminals of 12V battery (A), and then
the air bag module deploys.

CAUTION:

• When deploying the passenger air bag module, never

stand on the deploying side.
