ANTI-LOCK BRAKING SYSTEM (ABS) DIAGNOSIS

TSB Revision

ANTI-LOCK BRAKING SYSTEM (ABS) <4WD>

35C-35

.

CIRCUIT OPERATION
The G-sensor detects acceleration or deceleration,
and converts it to a voltage signal to send to the
ABS-ECU (terminal 7).

.

ABS DTC SET CONDITIONS
DTC 32 is set in the following case:

• The G-sensor output is less than 0.5 volt or more

than 4.5 volts for more than 2 seconds.

• There is an open or short circuit in the G-sensor

system.

.

TROUBLESHOOTING HINTS
The most likely causes for DTC is to set are:

• Damaged wiring harness or connector

• Malfunction of the G-sensor

• Malfunction of the hydraulic unit (integrated with

ABS-ECU)

ANTI-LOCK BRAKING SYSTEM (ABS) DIAGNOSIS

TSB Revision

ANTI-LOCK BRAKING SYSTEM (ABS) <4WD>

35C-36

DIAGNOSIS

Required Special Tools:

• MB991348: Test Harness Set

• MB991958: Scan Tool (MUT-III Sub Assembly)

• MB991824: Vehicle Communication Interface (V.C.I.)

• MB991827: MUT-III USB Cable

• MB991911: MUT-III Main Harness B

STEP 1. Using scan tool MB991958, check data list item 32:
G-sensor output voltage.

CAUTION

To prevent damage to scan tool MB991958, always turn the
ignition switch to the "LOCK" (OFF) position before con-
necting or disconnecting scan tool MB991958.
(1) Connect scan tool MB991958 to the data link connector.
(2) Start the engine.

(3) Set scan tool MB991958 to data reading mode for item 32,

G-sensor output voltage.

• Voltage should measure 2.4 − 2.6V when the vehicle is

stopped.

• Voltage should change within the range of 1.0 − 4.0V

during running.

Q: Is the measured voltage within the specified range?

YES : This malfunction is intermittent. Refer to GROUP 00,

How to Use Troubleshooting/Inspection Service
Points

− How to Cope With Intermittent Malfunction

P.00-7

NO :  Go to Step 2.

STEP 2. Measure the power supply circuit voltage at
G-sensor connector C-26.
(1) Disconnect G-sensor connector C-26 and measure at the

harness side.

(2) Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position.
(3) Measure the voltage between terminal 1 and ground. It

should measure approximately 12 volts (battery positive
voltage).

Q: Is battery positive voltage (approximately 12 volts)

present?
YES :
Go to Step 3.
NO :  Go to Step 5.

STEP 3. Check the ground circuit at G-sensor connector
C-26.

(1) Disconnect G-sensor connector C-26 and measure at the

harness side.

(2) Check for the continuity between terminal 3 and ground. It

should be continuity (less than 2 ohm).

Q: Is there continuity between the terminals number 3 and

ground?
YES :
Go to Step 4.
NO :  Go to Step 6.

STEP 4. Measure the output circuit voltage at G-sensor
connector C-26.
(1) Disconnect G-sensor connector C-26, and then connect

special tool MB991348 between terminals of the

disconnected connector.

(2) Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position.
(3) Measure the voltage between terminal 2 and ground.

• voltage should measure 2.4 − 2.6V when G-sensor is

placed on a level plane.

• voltage should measure 3.4 − 3.6V when G-sensor is

placed with its label faces as shown.

Q: Is the measured voltage within the specified range?

YES : Go to Step 6.
NO :  Replace the G-sensor and then go to Step 7.
