SYMPTOM PROCEDURES

SMART WIRING SYSTEM (SWS) NOT USING SWS MONITOR

54B-118

INSPECTION PROCEDURE G-3: When the selector lever is moved to "R" position during the rear
wiper operation, the rear wiper does not operate at the continuous mode. <CVT>

CAUTION

Whenever the ECU is replaced, ensure that the
input and output signal circuits are normal.

COMMENTS ON TROUBLE SYMPTOM

If the rear wiper does not operate consecutively
when the selector lever is moved to the R position
during the rear wiper operation, the shift position
input signal circuit or the ETACS-ECU may be defec-
tive.

POSSIBLE CAUSES

• Malfunction of the engine-CVT-ECU

• Malfunction of the ETACS-ECU

• Damaged harness wires and connectors

DIAGNOSIS PROCEDURE

Step 1. Check the operation of the rear wiper.
Check that the rear wiper system should work nor-
mally by operating the rear wiper switch.

Q: Is the check result normal?

YES :

Go to Step 2.

NO :

Refer to inspection procedure G-1 "The rear
wiper does not work at all

P.54B-110

."

Step 2. M.U.T.-III CAN bus diagnostics
Use the M.U.T.-III to diagnose the CAN bus lines.

Q: Is the check result normal?

YES :

Go to Step 3.

NO :

Repair the CAN bus line (Refer to GROUP
54D, Diagnosis

P.54D-13

).

Step 3. M.U.T.-III other system diagnosis code
Check whether the engine-CVT-ECU-related diagno-
sis code is set.

Q: Is the diagnosis code set?

YES :

Diagnose the CVT (Refer to GROUP 23A

−

Troubleshooting

P.23A-14

).

NO :

Go to Step 4.

Step 4. Retest the system.
Check that the rear wiper operates consecutively
when the selector lever is moved to the R position
during the rear wiper operation.

Q: Is the check result normal?

YES :

The trouble can be an intermittent

malfunction (Refer to GROUP 00

− How to

motor, the column switch, the ETACS-ECU may be
defective.

POSSIBLE CAUSES

• Malfunction of the washer motor

• Malfunction of the column switch

• Malfunction of the ETACS-ECU

• Damaged harness wires and connectors

DIAGNOSIS PROCEDURE

Step 1. Confirm the operation of the rear wiper.
