NOTE: Prior to the wiring harness inspection, check 
the junction block connector C-211, and repair if nec-
essary.

• Check the power supply line from the fusible link 

(23) for open circuit and short.

Q: Is the check result normal?

YES : 

The trouble can be an intermittent 

malfunction (Refer to GROUP 00 

− How to 

use Troubleshooting/inspection Service 
Points 

− How to Cope with Intermittent 

Malfunction ).

NO : 

Repair the wiring harness.

STEP 6. Retest the system.
Check that the tail lamps illuminate normally.

Q: Is the check result normal?

YES : 

The trouble can be an intermittent 

malfunction (Refer to GROUP 00

use Troubleshooting/inspection Service 
Points 

− How to Cope with Intermittent 

Malfunction ).

NO : 

Replace the ETACS-ECU and register the 
ID codes (Refer to 

P.54A-39

).

Inspection Procedure 2: One of tail lamps does not illuminate.

CAUTION

Whenever the ECU is replaced, ensure that the input and output signal circuits are normal.

COMMENTS ON TROUBLE SYMPTOM
If one of the tail lamps does not illuminate, the wiring 
harness connector(s), the bulb or the fuse may be 
defective or burned out.

PROBABLE CAUSES

• Burned-out bulb

• Damaged harness wires and connectors

DIAGNOSIS PROCEDURE

STEP 1. Connector check: F-04 <vehicles with 
rear body> or F-23 <vehicles without rear body> 
rear combination lamp (tail: LH) connector or F-
02 <vehicles with rear body> or F-19 <vehicles 
without rear body> rear combination lamp (tail: 
RH) connector

Q: Is the check result normal?

YES : 

Go to Step 2.

NO : 

Repair the defective connector.

STEP 2. Check the bulbs of the tail lamps.
Check the bulb of the lamp which does not illumi-
nate.

Q: Is the check result normal?

YES : 

Go to Step 3.

NO : 

Replace the bulb of the lamp which does not 
illuminate.

STEP 3. Resistance measurement at the F-04 
<vehicles with rear body> or F-23 <vehicles 
without rear body> rear combination lamp (tail: 
LH) connector or F-02 <vehicles with rear body> 
or F-19 <vehicles without rear body> rear 
combination lamp (tail: RH) connector.

(1) Disconnect the connector, and measure at the 

wiring harness side.

(2) Check the resistance between the lamp 

connector and body earth.

•

Resistance between F-04 rear combination lamp 

(tail: LH) or F-02 rear combination lamp (tail: 
RH) connector terminal No.5 and body earth 
<vehicles with rear body>

•

Resistance between F-23 rear combination lamp 

(tail: LH) or F-19 rear combination lamp (tail: 
RH) connector terminal No.5 and body earth 
<vehicles without rear body>

OK: Continuity exists (2 

Ω or less)

Q: Is the check result normal?

YES : 

Go to Step 5.

NO : 

Go to Step 4.

STEP 4. Check the wiring harness from F-04 
<vehicles with rear body> or F-23 <vehicles 
without rear body> rear combination lamp (tail: 
LH) connector or F-02 <vehicles with rear body> 
or F-19 <vehicles without rear body> rear 
combination lamp (tail: RH) connector terminal 
No.5 to body earth.

NOTE: Prior to the wiring harness inspection, check 
intermediate connector F-07, and repair if necessary.

• Check the earth wires for open circuit.

Q: Is the check result normal?

YES : 

Go to Step 5.

NO : 

Repair the wiring harness.

STEP 5. Connector check: C-218 ETACS-ECU 
connector

Q: Is the check result normal?

YES : 

Go to Step 6.

NO : 

Repair the defective connector.
