7. Unload the pedal spring. See Fig. 27 .  

8. Remove the brake pedal nut and bolt. See Fig. 28 .  

9. Remove the brake pedal. 

10. To install, reverse removal procedure. Make sure bushings are in the end of the pivot tube. See Fig. 29 . 

Position the accelerator pedal using the brake pedal motor, all the way forward or backward, depending 
on the position of the new brake pedal. See Fig. 44 .  

11. Remove the brake pedal-to-accelerator pedal cable from the accelerator pedal by pulling on the cable 

retainer.  

12. Position the brake pedal in the same position as the accelerator pedal, using the brake pedal motor.  

13. Install the brake pedal-to-accelerator pedal cable in the accelerator pedal. See Fig. 39 .  

14. To complete installation, reverse remaining removal procedures. Tighten fasteners to specification. See 

TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .  

CAUTION: Ensure the bulkhead sound insulator is not between the brake pedal 

and bracket and the bulkhead.

CAUTION: The brake pedal and the accelerator pedal must be in the same 

position when installing a new cable or a new pedal. The pedals must 
be in the all the way forward or all the way rearward position.

BRAKE PEDAL & BRACKET 

Removal & Installation (Fixed Pedals With A/T) 

1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.  

2. Remove the stoplight switch self-locking pin. See Fig. 30 .  

3. Slide the stoplight switch and booster push rod off the brake pedal pin. See Fig. 31 .  

4. Remove the bulkhead sound insulator and the brake pedal bracket nuts. See Fig. 32 .  

5. Remove the brake pedal bracket bolts and remove brake pedal and bracket. See Fig. 33 . Support the
