18. Install the rear driveshaft. For additional information, refer to DRIVESHAFT & UNIVERSAL 

JOINTS .  

19. Install the starter. For additional information, refer to STARTER MOTOR .  

20. Connect the wiring harness to the transmission, the transfer case (if equipped) and the Heated Oxygen 

Sensors (HO2S).  

21. Install the fuel line bracket.  

22. Install the lower gearshift lever.  

23. Install the lower gearshift lever boot.

24. Install the upper gearshift lever. 

NOTE:

Align the index marks made during removal.

25. Install the upper gearshift lever boot.  

26. Connect the battery ground cable. For additional information, refer to BATTERY, MOUNTING AND 

CABLES - F150 PICKUP .  

27. If the transmission was disassembled, refill with transmission fluid.  

28. Check the vehicle ride height. Adjust as necessary. For additional information, refer to 

SPECIFICATIONS & PROCEDURES - BLACKWOOD & F150 PICKUP .

Under normal driving conditions, replace transmission fluid every 60,000 miles. 

CHECKING FLUID LEVEL 

Check fluid level at fill plug hole. Fluid level should be even with bottom of fill hole. Add appropriate fluid as 
necessary. See RECOMMENDED FLUIDS .

DRAINING & REFILLING 

G5M, M50D-R1 & M50D-R2 

Remove drain plug. See Fig. 1 and Fig. 2 . After fluid has drained, reinstall drain plug and tighten to 
specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Remove LH splash shield. Remove fill plug. See Fig. 3 
and Fig. 4 . Fill transmission with appropriate fluid until level with fill hole. See RECOMMENDED 
FLUIDS . Install fill plug and tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Install LH splash 
shield.
