Installation (4R70W) 

1. Using the Shift Shaft Fluid Seal Installer (307-050), install the instruction control lever shaft seal. See Fig. 

37 . Install the parking lever actuating rod (2). See Fig. 36 . Install the instruction valve detent lever (1).  

2. Install the instruction control lever shaft. Install the manual control lever shaft nut. Install the manual control 

lever shaft retaining pin. See Fig. 34 .  

3. Install the instruction valve detent lever spring. See Fig. 33 . Install the manual valve detent lever spring bolt 

and tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Install the TR sensor. See 
TRANSMISSION RANGE SENSOR .  

4. Adjust the TR sensor. See TRANSMISSION RANGE SENSOR under ADJUSTMENTS.  

5. With the gearshift lever in overdrive, connect the shift cable. Install the TR sensor harness connector. 

Install the transmission oil filter and pan. See DRAINING & REFILLING under LUBRICATION.  

6. On 4WD vehicles, install front axle shaft. See appropriate AXLE SHAFTS article in 

DRIVELINE/AXLES. Connect battery ground cable.  

7. Lower vehicle. Fill the transmission with appropriate fluid to proper level and check for correct 

transmission operation. See LUBRICATION .

PARKING MECHANISM (4R100) 

Removal 

Remove extension housing. See EXTENSION HOUSING GASKET . Remove parking rod guide plate 
retaining bolts. See Fig. 38 . Remove parking pawl return spring, parking pawl and parking pawl shaft from 
case. See Fig. 39 .
