4. Attach a jack to transmission. Remove crossmember and bolts. Lower rear of transmission to gain access

to sensors.

5. Disconnect shift cable from instruction control lever.

6. Disconnect Transmission Range (TR), sensor harness connector. Remove instruction control lever from shift

cable. Remove 2 retaining bolts and TR sensor from case.

Installation

1. Install TR sensor onto instruction control lever shaft. Install 2 retaining bolts, but do not tighten. Place TR

sensor in neutral position (2 detent positions back from Park). Adjust TR sensor. See TRANSMISSION
RANGE SENSOR
under ADJUSTMENTS. After adjusting TR sensor, tighten retaining bolts to
specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .

2. Install instruction control lever to TR sensor and tighten nut to specification. See TORQUE

SPECIFICATIONS . Connect shift cable to instruction control lever. Install harness connector to TR
sensor. Lower vehicle and connect negative battery cable. Activate air suspension, if equipped.

TURBINE SHAFT SPEED SENSOR & OUTPUT SHAFT SPEED SENSOR (4R100)

Removal

Place vehicle in Neutral. Raise and support the vehicle. For RWD Navigator, remove dampener and bolts.
Remove insulator-to-crossmember support nuts. Remove LH and RH heatshield-to-crossmember bolts. Attach
jack to transmission. Remove crossmember and bolts. Lower rear of transmission to gain access to sensors.
Disconnect the affected sensor(s), either the Turbine Shaft Speed (TSS) or Output Shaft Speed (OSS) sensor.
See Fig. 40 . Remove the TSS retaining bolt. Remove the TSS. Position the Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S)
harness connector out of the way. Remove the OSS retaining bolt. Remove the OSS sensor.

CAUTION: DO NOT raise transmission so that case contacts underbody. Raising

transmission too high may cause damage to Turbine Shaft Speed (TSS) or
Output Shaft Speed (OSS) sensors.

Position the HO2S harness connector back in place. Lubricate the "O" ring and install the TSS. Install the TSS
Retaining Bolt and tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Connect the OSS or TSS
sensor harness connector. Install crossmember to transmission mount. Raise transmission and align bolt holes.
Install mount-to-crossmember nuts. Tighten nuts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Install
insulator-to-crossmember bolts. Tighten bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Install LH
and RH heat shield-to-crossmember bolts. Tighten bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
For RWD Navigator only, install dampener and bolts. Tighten bolts to specification. See TORQUE
SPECIFICATIONS
. Remove transmission jack. Lower the vehicle.

VALVE BODY, ACCUMULATOR BODY & SOLENOID BODY (4R100)

NOTE:

If the transmission has been disassembled to replace worn or damaged parts,
and the valves in the main control valve body stick repeatedly from foreign
material, the torque converter must be removed and cleaned by using a suitable
