intermittent fault or if not directed to this step from step 2 , go to next step.
4. Check for additional DTCs
Refer to continuous DTCs recorded in step 1 . If any continuous DTCs were retrieved, go to diagnostic
trouble code identification table for direction to appropriate test. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE
(DTC) IDENTIFICATION table. If no continuous DTCs were retrieved, reactivate air bag system. See
ACTIVATING SYSTEM under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM. Clear all DTCs.
See CLEARING FAULT CODES under DIAGNOSTICS.
TEST Y: NO COMMUNICATION WITH RCM
1. Check RCM connector & pin No. 5 for damage
Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disable air bag system. See DISABLING SYSTEM under
DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM. Access RCM and disconnect harness connector.
See RESTRAINTS CONTROL MODULE (RCM) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Inspect
component side and harness side of RCM connector, terminal No. 5 for damage. See Fig. 14 & Fig. 17 .
If module pin and module harness connector terminal No. 5 are okay, go to next step. If module pin and
module harness connector terminal No. 5 are damaged, repair/replace as necessary. Reactivate air bag
system. See ACTIVATING SYSTEM under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM.
2. Check DLC for damage
Inspect Data Link Connector (DLC) and DLC connector terminal No. 7 for damage. See Fig. 19 . DLC is
located under steering column. If DLC connector and DLC connector terminal No. 7 is okay, go to next
step. If DLC connector and DLC connector terminal No. 7 is damaged, repair/replace as necessary.
Reactivate air bag system. See ACTIVATING SYSTEM under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR
BAG SYSTEM.
3. Check circuit for open
Measure resistance of Light Blue/White wire (circuit No. 70) between harness side of RCM connector
terminal No. 5 and DLC connector terminal No. 7. See Fig. 14 & Fig. 19 . If resistance is less than 5
ohms, replace RCM. Reconnect air bag system. Activate air bag system. See ACTIVATING SYSTEM
under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM. Clear all DTCs. See CLEARING FAULT
CODES under DIAGNOSTICS. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in Light Blue/White wire.
See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Reconnect air bag system. Activate air bag system. Clear all DTCs.
