10. Remove second gear clutch cone (3) snap ring

(2) from mainshaft synchro hub groove.

11. Remove second gear clutch cone (4), synchro

clutch ring (3) and synchro stop ring (2).

12. Remove 1-2 synchro hub snap ring (1).

13. Remove 1-2 synchro sleeve, hub (1), struts and

springs as an assembly. Tapered side of sleeve
also goes toward front. Do not disassemble syn-
chro components unless worn or damaged.

14. Remove first gear synchro stop ring (2) and clutch

ring (1).

15. Remove first gear (1) clutch cone front snap ring

(2) from mainshaft hub.

16. Remove first gear clutch cone.

NOTE: Do not remove this snap ring unless main-
shaft is being replaced.

17. Remove first gear clutch gear (2) rear snap ring

(1) from mainshaft hub.

18. Remove mainshaft (5) rear bearing (1), with Puller Flange 6444-1 (6) and Puller Rods 6444-3 (7) for 4X2 or

6444-4 for 4X4.

19. Position the first Jaw 6445 (3) on the bearing cone and seat Puller Flange 6444-1(2) in notch of jaw.

20. Install second Jaw 6445 on the bearing cone and puller flange. Slide Collar 6444-8 (4) over jaws.

21. Install Puller 6444 (5) on the puller rods (8) and

secure with nuts. Tighten puller bolt to the remove
bearing.

22. Remove bearing puller tools and rear mainshaft

bearing from output shaft.

23. Remove reverse gear (1) thrust washer (2).

24. Remove reverse gear and synchro components

as assembly (2).

CAUTION: Do not disassemble synchro compo-
nents unless damaged. If synchro sleeve or struts
require service, mark position of sleeve on hub
before removal. Correct sleeve position is impor-
tant as sleeve can be installed backwards causing
shift problems.

25. Remove reverse gear bearing assembly (3) from

mainshaft.
