7. Install the electrical connector to the actuator motor, if needed.

8. Install the differential carrier vent hose.  

9. Install the propeller shaft. Refer to Front Propeller Shaft Replacement .

10. Install the wheel drive shaft mounting bolts. 

Tighten: Tighten the mounting bolts to 79 N.m (58 lb ft). 

11. Install the lower control arm crossmember. Refer to Drivetrain and Front Suspension 

Frame Front Crossmember Replacement (1500, 2500 LD) .  

12. Fill the differential carrier. Refer to Front Axle Lubricant Replacement.  

13. Remove the support and lower the vehicle.  

DIFFERENTIAL CARRIER ASSEMBLY REPLACEMENT (2500 4WD) 

Removal Procedure 

 

2008 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 

2008 Driveline/Axle Front Drive Axle - Cab & Chassis Sierra, Cab & Chassis Silverado, Sierra & Silverado

  

1. Turn the steering wheel all the way to the left.  

2. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .  

3. Place jack or utility stands at the rear end of the vehicle.  

4. Remove the engine protection shield. Refer to Engine Shield Replacement .  

5. Remove the front differential carrier assembly shield, if equipped. Refer to Shield 

Replacement.  

6. Drain the differential carrier assembly. Refer to Front Axle Lubricant Replacement.  

7. Disconnect the front propeller shaft from the differential carrier assembly. Refer to Front 

Propeller Shaft Replacement .  

8. Remove the relay rod. Refer to Relay Rod Replacement .  

9. Support the differential carrier assembly with a transmission jack or equivalent.
