Dodge Durango (HB). Manual - part 1376

INSTALLATION

1. Install the hinge (2), slide back into position on the

fender rail and align all marks.

2. From inside the fender, install the two hinge bolts

(1).

3. Tighten the rear bolt to 20 N·m (15 ft. lbs.)

4. Tighten the front bolt to 20 N·m (15 ft. lbs.)

5. Install the nuts attaching the hinge to the hood and

tighten the nuts to 23 N·m (17 ft. lbs.)

6. Install the fender support bolt and tighten to 8 N·m

(75 in. lbs.).

7. Install the cowl grille. (Refer to 23 - BODY/EXTE-

RIOR/COWL GRILLE AND SCREEN - INSTALLA-
TION)

8. Install the wheelhouse splash shield and install the

rivets. (Refer to 23 - BODY/EXTERIOR/FRONT
WHEELHOUSE SPLASH SHIELD - DESCRIP-
TION)

9. Check hood fit and adjust if required. (Refer to 23 -

BODY/BODY STRUCTURE/GAP AND FLUSH -
SPECIFICATIONS)

HOOD

REMOVAL

1. Open hood and disconnect the washer hoses.

2. Mark all nut and hinge attachment locations using

a grease pencil or equivalent, to provide reference
marks for installation.

3. Remove the top nuts (3) attaching hood to hinge

and loosen the bottom nuts (3) until they can be
removed by hand.

4. Remove the bottom nuts (3) and separate the hood

(1) from the vehicle.

INSTALLATION

1. Position the hood (1) onto the hinges (2).

2. Align all marks and install the nuts.

3. Tighten the nuts too 23 N·m (17 ft. lbs.).

4. Connect the washer hoses.

5. Close hood and adjust as necessary. (Refer to 23 -

BODY/HOOD/HOOD - ADJUSTMENTS)

ADJUSTMENTS

NOTE: For gap and flush specifications, (Refer to
23 - BODY/BODY STRUCTURE/GAP AND FLUSH -
SPECIFICATIONS).

1. If hood is low in relation to cowl panel, loosen the

hood to hinge nuts and insert shims between hinge
and hood.

2. Adjust hood bumpers (2) in or out to adjust hood-

to-fender height alignment.

3. Loosen the hood latch screws.

4. Close the hood and check the fore/aft position of

the hood.

5. Loosen the hood to hinge nuts to adjust the fore/aft

position.

6. Once the fore/aft position of the hood is correct,

tighten the hood to hinge nuts to 23 N·m (17 ft. lbs.).

7. Lower the hood. Inspect clearance between the hood and the cowl cover.

8. Adjust the hood latch as necessary and tighten the bolts to 11 N·m (8 ft. lbs.).

9. Align the latch striker so that striker enters the latch squarely and without binding.

REMOVAL

1. Remove the push pin fasteners and remove the

upper radiator shroud.

2. Using a grease pencil or equivalent, mark latch

position for installation alignment.

3. Remove bolts (3) attaching hood latch (4) to upper

radiator crossmember (1).

4. Separate hood latch (1) from crossmember and

disconnect the release cable (2).

INSTALLATION

1. Connect release cable (2) to the hood latch (1).

2. Install the latch (4) lining up the marks made pre-

viously and install the bolts (3).

3. Tighten the bolts to 11 N·m (8 ft. lbs.).

4. Close hood and adjust latch as necessary. (Refer

to 23 - BODY/HOOD/LATCH - ADJUSTMENTS)

ADJUSTMENTS

1. Check and adjust the hood if required. (Refer to 23

- BODY/HOOD/HOOD - ADJUSTMENTS)

2. Remove the push pin fasteners and remove the

upper radiator shroud.

3. Loosen the hood latch bolts (3).

4. Move the latch to the correct location and lightly

tighten the bolts.

5. Close the hood slowly and observe the latching

operation.

6. If necessary, adjust the latch position and tighten

the bolts to 11 N·m (8 ft. lbs.).

RELEASE-HOOD LATCH

REMOVAL

1. Remove the grille. (Refer to 23 - BODY/EXTERI-

OR/GRILLE - REMOVAL)

2. Remove hood latch (4). (Refer to 23 - BODY/

HOOD/LATCH - REMOVAL)

3. Remove the left headlamp unit. (Refer to 8 - ELEC-

TRICAL/LAMPS/LIGHTING

EXTERIOR/HEAD-

LAMP UNIT - REMOVAL)

4. Remove the plastic rivets and remove the left front

wheelhouse splash shield. (Refer to 23 - BODY/
EXTERIOR/FRONT

WHEELHOUSE

SPLASH

SHIELD - DESCRIPTION)

5. Detach the release cable and the retainer clips (2)

in the engine compartment.
