Handling primer

General

For processing during body repairs, the following primer system is recommended by Porsche AG.

2-component SIP

ATTENTION

Adhesion of the bonded joint will be impaired if the primer is not processed correctly.

→ Process mixed primer within eight hours; do not keep any leftover primer.

→ The adhesive flange must be coated thinly and evenly with primer. Remove excess material.

→ Protect primed surfaces from soiling.

Note

Primed surfaces can be stored in the open for a maximum of three days before undergoing further
processing. When doing so, make sure that the surfaces are not soiled by the surrounding
environment. After standing in the open for more than three days, the primer must be removed and
reapplied. For this reason, body parts must be stuck immediately after the primer has been applied.

•

Removing excess primer

A thin, violet-coloured coating of primer is sufficient for the adhesive flanges.
Adhesive flanges are not evenly coated (droplet formation):
result is not OK.

Primer application incorrect

Using wet sandpaper (approx. 200 grit) or a sanding fleece, rub the primer film, which is still damp, around
the flange area until an even application of primer is achieved. If an even application of primer is not
obtained, the adhesive flange must be completely cleaned, sanded and primed once again.

9. Dry

primer.

9.1. Allow primer to flash off; it must be dust-dry before any adhesive is

applied.
