Removing

Caution

When the adhesive beads of the rear spoiler are cut through,

it is not permissible to use cutting wire due to the risk of damage

to the painted areas.

Note

Clean dirt from all joints so that no paintwork is damaged when rear spoiler is removed.

Mask of adjoining paintwork using adhesive tape to prevent damage.

4. Rear spoiler

– Carefully detach adhesive tape between rear lid and rear

spoiler (e.g. with a plastic wedge).

– Pull cutting cord in under rear spoiler -1- at side.
– Secure a pull handle -V.A.G 1351/1- to both ends of the cutting

cord..

– Cut through adhesive beads -3- on rear spoiler -1- with “saw‐

ing” motions.

– Remove rear spoiler from rear lid.
Installing
Preparing rear spoiler and rear lid for bonding
If the undamaged rear lid and/or undamaged rear spoiler is re-

used
– Replace double-sided adhesive tape on rear spoiler with new

double-sided adhesive tape (⇒  Electronic parts catalogue

“ETKA” ).

– Cut back the remains of the adhesive sealing material to ap‐

prox. 2 mm shortly before installing the parts, without damag‐

ing the paintwork.

The cut surfaces do not require additional cleaning.

Note

The remaining material is required as a base for the new adhesive

sealing material.

If a new rear lid is used
– Place rear spoiler on rear lid and mark the mounting position,

then remove rear spoiler again.

– Clean marked bonding surface with cleaning solution (⇒  Elec‐

tronic parts catalogue “ETKA” ).

Caution

Take great care to ensure that glass/paint primer is not applied

outside the marked area. If glass/paint primer is applied out‐

side the marked area, it can be removed up to approx. 1 minute

after application of primer with a lint-free cloth and cleaning

spirit. After this time, cleaning is no longer possible because

the glass/paint primer starts to adhere to the paint.

– Prime marked bonding surfaces for 1K glass adhesive with

glass/paint primer (⇒  Electronic parts catalogue “ETKA” ).

• Drying time 10 minutes
If a new rear spoiler is used
– Clean bonding surfaces with cleaning solution (⇒  Electronic

parts catalogue “ETKA” ).

Caution

Take great care to ensure that glass/paint primer is not applied

beyond the bonding surfaces. If glass/paint primer is applied

outside the bonding areas, it can be removed up to approx. 1

minute  after  application  of  primer  with  a  lint-free  cloth  and

cleaning spirit. After this time, cleaning is no longer possible

because the glass/paint primer starts to adhere to the paint.

– Prime bonding surfaces for 1K glass adhesive with glass/paint

primer (⇒  Electronic parts catalogue “ETKA” ).

• Drying time 10 minutes
Instructions for applying double-sided adhesive tape
♦ If the rear spoiler is being installed for first time on a newly

painted surface, the procedure described in ⇒  Workshop

manual "Paint"; ⇒Paintwork repairs; ⇒Paint finish; ⇒Mouldings

& Films must be followed.

♦ If the rear spoiler is removed and reinstalled, only use the ad‐

hesive remover ⇒  Electronic parts catalogue “ETKA” to re‐

move residual adhesive of adhesive tape.

4. Rear spoiler

♦ Ensure that surfaces to be bonded are free of dust and grease.
♦ Glue rear spoiler on immediately after cleaning.
♦ Remove protective foil just before mounting the rear spoiler.
♦ Working temperature is approx. 21 ℃.
Carry out following work:

WARNING

Make sure that the correct materials are used for the corre‐

sponding stages of work.

– Prepare rear spoiler and rear lid for bonding

– Observe instructions for applying double-sided adhesive tape

⇒ page 271

– Apply 1K glass adhesive -1- to rear spoiler -2- using cartridge

gun -V.A.G 1628- .
