(j) Lower the vehicle. [*10]

(k) Start the engine. [*11]

NOTICE:

Make sure that the A/C switch is off.

(l) Slowly move the shift lever from P to S, then change the gear from 1st to 6th. Then return the shift lever

to P. [*12]

(m) Allow the engine to idle for 30 seconds to warm it up. [*13]

(n) Turn the ignition switch off. [*14]

(o) Repeat steps [*1] to [*14].

(p) Repeat steps [*1] to [*2].

(q) Install a new gasket and the drain plug. [*15]

Torque:

20 N·m {204 kgf·cm, 15ft·lbf}

(r) Repeat steps [*4] to [*10].

(s) Adjust the fluid level

(t) Lower the vehicle.

(u) Operation complete.

ADJUSTMENT

NOTICE:

This transmission requires Toyota Genuine ATF WS.
After servicing the transmission, you must follow the ATF adjustment procedure.
Maintain the vehicle in a horizontal position while adjusting the fluid level.

1. PRELIMINARY PROCEDURES

(a) w/ Trailer Towing System (w/ Transmission oil cooler

thermostat):

(1) Using compressed air, etc., blow dust off the thermostat cap

to clean it.

Pushed amount: 5.5 to 7.0 mm (0.217 to 0.276 in.)
Push the shaft until the screwdriver contacts the step inside the
cap.

HINT:

Pin diameter: 1.0 to 1.8 mm (0.0394 to 0.0709 in.)

2. BEFORE FILLING TRANSMISSION

When you have replaced the entire transmission, transmission pan, drain plug, valve body and/or

torque converter, proceed to the "TRANSMISSION FILL" procedures.

When you have replaced the transmission hose and/or output shaft oil seal, proceed to the "FLUID

TEMPERATURE CHECK" procedures.

3. TRANSMISSION FILL

(a) Remove the refill plug and overflow plug.

(b) Fill the transmission through the refill hole until fluid begins to

2.1 liters (2.2 US qts, 1.8 Imp. qts)

Transmission valve body removal

4.7 liters (5.0 US qts, 4.1 Imp. qts)

Torque converter removal

6.1 liters (6.4 US qts, 5.4 Imp. qts)

(e) Install the refill plug.

HINT:

NOTICE:

Check that electrical systems such as the air conditioning system, audio system and lighting system are

off.

(2) Move the shift lever through the entire gear range to circulate the fluid.

(3) Wait for 30 seconds with the engine idling.

(4) Stop the engine.

(5) Remove the refill plug.

(6) Fill the transmission with the remaining fluid until the amount in the table has been filled.

(7) Install the refill plug.

4. FLUID TEMPERATURE CHECK

NOTICE:

The ATF temperature can be confirmed by using a Techstream.

(a) Turn the ignition switch off.

(b) Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.

(c) Turn the ignition switch ON.

(d) Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Data List / A/T Oil Temperature 1.

(e) Check the ATF temperature.

NOTICE:

If the ATF temperature is above 44°C (111°F), turn the ignition switch off and wait until the fluid

temperature drops to between 37 and 44°C (99 and 111°F).

5. FLUID LEVEL CHECK

NOTICE:

It is necessary to change to temperature detection mode in order to idle the vehicle appropriately.
The ATF temperature must be between 37 and 44°C (99 and 111°F) to accurately check the fluid level.

(a) Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Active Test / Connect the TC and TE1.

Standard condition:

Indicator lights on the combination meter blink.

(b) Start the engine to idle.

NOTICE:

Check that electrical systems such as the air conditioning system, audio system and lighting system are

off.

(c) Slowly move the shift lever from P to S, then change the gear from 1st to 6th. Then return the shift lever

to P.
