ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION

1. INSPECT PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY

(a) Apply the parking brake and turn the ignition switch to ON.

(b) Depress the brake pedal and check that the engine starts when the shift lever is in N or P, but does not

start when the shift lever is in other positions.

(c) Check that the back-up light illuminates and the reverse warning buzzer sounds when the shift lever is in

R, but do not function when the shift lever is in other positions.

REMOVAL

1. DISCONNECT TRANSMISSION CONTROL CABLE

ASSEMBLY

(a) Remove the nut and disconnect the cable.

2. REMOVE PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY

(a) Disconnect the switch connector.

(b) Remove the nut, spring washer and transmission control shaft

lever RH.

(e) Remove the bolt and switch.

HINT:

Make sure that the manual valve lever shaft has not been

rotated prior to installing the park/neutral position switch as the
detent spring may become detached from the manual valve
lever shaft.
