(a) Remove the 2 screws.

(b) Detach the 2 claws to remove the lower steering column cover.

9. REMOVE UPPER STEERING COLUMN COVER

(a) Detach the 4 clips.

(b) Detach the claw to remove the upper steering column cover.

10. REMOVE TURN SIGNAL SWITCH ASSEMBLY WITH SPIRAL CABLE SUB-ASSEMBLY

(a) Disconnect the 5 connectors from the turn signal switch with

spiral cable.

11. DISCONNECT COLUMN SHIFT TRANSMISSION CONTROL CABLE ASSEMBLY 

12. REMOVE COLUMN SHIFT SHIFT LEVER SUB-ASSEMBLY 

13. REMOVE FRONT DOOR SCUFF PLATE LH (for Regular Cab) 

14. REMOVE FRONT DOOR SCUFF PLATE LH (for Double Cab, CrewMax) 

15. REMOVE COWL SIDE TRIM BOARD LH 

16. REMOVE INSTRUMENT SIDE PANEL LH 

17. REMOVE LOWER INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY LH 

18. REMOVE LOWER NO. 1 INSTRUMENT PANEL AIRBAG ASSEMBLY 

19. REMOVE NO. 1 AIR DUCT SUB-ASSEMBLY

(a) Remove the bolt and air duct.

20. REMOVE STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT ASSEMBLY

(a) Remove the 3 bolts and nut.

(b) Put matchmarks on the steering intermediate shaft and the

steering column.

NOTICE:

When using a vise, do not overtighten it.

1. REMOVE TRANSPONDER KEY AMPLIFIER (w/ Engine Immobiliser System)

(a) Using a screwdriver, widen the claws attached to the upper

bracket by approximately 1.0 mm (0.0394 in.).

(b) Pull out the transponder key amplifier with the claws open.

NOTICE:

Using excessive force may damage the case.

2. REMOVE KEY CYLINDER LIGHT ASSEMBLY (w/o Engine Immobiliser System)

(a) Using a screwdriver, widen the claws attached to the upper

bracket by approximately 1.0 mm (0.0394 in.).

(b) Pull out the key cylinder light with the claws open.

NOTICE:

Using excessive force may damage the case.

3. REMOVE UPPER STEERING COLUMN WITH SWITCH BRACKET ASSEMBLY

(a) Secure the steering column in a vise.
