ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION

1. CHECK THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY

(a) Check the throttle control motor operating sounds.

(1) Turn the ignition switch to ON.

If friction noise exists, replace the throttle body.

(b) Check the throttle position sensor.

(1) Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.

(2) Turn the ignition switch to ON.

(3) Push the Techstream main switch ON.

(4) Enter the following menus:

Select: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Data List / All Data / Throttle Sensor Position.

(5) Depress the accelerator pedal. When the throttle valve is fully opened, check that the value of

"THROTTLE POS (Throttle Sensor Position)" is within the specification.

Standard throttle valve opening percentage:

60% or more

HINT:

When checking the standard throttle valve opening percentage, the shift lever should be in the N

position.

If the percentage is less than 60%, replace the throttle body.

REMOVAL

1. DRAIN ENGINE COOLANT 

2. REMOVE V-BANK COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY 

3. REMOVE AIR CLEANER HOSE ASSEMBLY 

4. REMOVE THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY

(a) Slide the clamp and disconnect the No. 4 water by-pass hose

from the No. 3 water by-pass pipe.

(b) Slide the clamp and disconnect the No. 5 water by-pass hose from the water inlet housing.

(c) Disconnect the throttle position sensor and control motor connector.

(d) Remove the 4 bolts, throttle with motor body assembly and

gasket.

(e) Slide the clamp and remove the No. 4 water by-pass hose from the throttle with motor body assembly.

(f) Slide the clamp and remove the No. 5 water by-pass hose from the throttle with motor body assembly.

INSPECTION

1. INSPECT THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY

(a) Check the throttle valve.

(1) Check that the throttle valve opens and closes smoothly.

(2) Check that there is no sludge accumulating around the throttle body.

(b) Check the throttle control motor.

(1) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the

table below.

Standard resistance:

0.3 to 100 Ω

If the result is not as specified, replace the throttle body.
