THERMOSTAT AND WATER PIPING

1. Check valve seating condition at ordinary room temperature. It should seat tightly.
2. Check valve operation.

• Place a thread so that it is caught in the valve of the thermo-

stat. Immerse fully in a container filled with water. Heat while

stirring.

• The valve opening temperature is the temperature at which

the valve opens and falls from the thread.

• Continue heating. Check the full-open lift amount.

• After checking the full-open lift amount, lower the water tem-

perature and check the valve closing temperature.

• If valve seating at ordinary room temperature, or measured values are out of standard, replace the thermo-

stat.

INSTALLATION

Installation is in the reverse order of removal.

CAUTION:

Do not spill engine coolant in engine room. Use a rag to absorb engine coolant.

Installation of Thermostat

• Install the thermostat with the whole circumference of each flange

part fit securely inside the rubber ring as shown.

• Install the thermostat with the jiggle valve facing upwards.

Installation of Water Outlet Pipe and Heater Pipe

First apply a neutral detergent to the O-rings, then quickly insert the insertion parts of the water outlet pipe and

heater pipe into the installation holes.

INSPECTION AFTER INSTALLATION

• Check for leaks of engine coolant. Refer to

CO-39, "System Inspection"

.

• Start and warm up the engine. Visually check for leaks of engine coolant.

FUNCTION DIAGNOSIS

REAR WINDOW DEFOGGER SYSTEM

System Diagram

INFOID:0000000005256860

System Description

INFOID:0000000005256861

Operation Description

• When rear window defogger switch is turned ON while ignition switch is ON, the A/C and AV switch assem-

bly (with auto A/C) or front air control (without auto A/C) transmits rear window defogger switch signal to

BCM.

• BCM transmits rear window defogger control signal to IPDM E/R and display unit (with auto A/C only) via

CAN communication when rear window defogger operates.

• IPDM E/R turns rear window defogger relay and heated mirror relay (if equipped) ON when rear window

defogger switch signal is received.

• Rear window defogger and door mirror defogger (if equipped) are supplied with power and operate when

rear window defogger relay and heated mirror relay (if equipped) turn ON.

• Rear window defogger ON is displayed when signal is received.

Timer function

• BCM turns rear window defogger relay and heated mirror relay (if equipped) ON for approximately 15 min-

utes when rear window defogger switch is turned ON while ignition switch is ON. It makes rear window

defogger and door mirror defogger (if equipped) operate.

• Timer is canceled after pressing rear window defogger switch again during timer operation. Then BCM turns

rear window defogger relay and heated mirror relay (if equipped) OFF. The same reaction also occurs during

timer operation, if the ignition switch is turned OFF.

• Performs the timer control of rear window defogger.

Rear window defogger relay

• Operates the rear window defogger and the door mirror defogger (if equipped) with the control

signal from BCM.

Rear window defogger switch

• The rear window defogger switch is turned ON.
• Turns the indicator lamp ON when detecting the operation of rear window defogger.

Rear window defogger

• Heats the heating wire with the power supply from the rear window defogger relay to prevent

the rear window from fogging up.
