DTC DETECTION LOGIC

POSSIBLE CAUSE

• Harness or connectors (Low pressure EGR volume control valve upstream temperature sensor circuit is

shorted.)

• Low pressure EGR volume control valve upstream temperature sensor

FAIL-SAFE

• EGR valve is closed position
• Throttle control motor is opened
• Temperature sensor after EGR cooler overheat signal diagnostic set of data to call the failure manag.

DTC CONFIRMATION PROCEDURE

1.

CHECK DTC PRIORITY

If DTC P1489 is displayed with DTC P1480, P1481, P1482, P1483, P1484, P1485, P1486, P1487 or P1488,
first perform the trouble diagnosis for DTC P1480, P1481, P1482, P1483, P1484, P1485, P1486, P1487 or
P1488.

Is applicable DTC detected?

YES

>> Perform diagnosis of applicable. Refer to 

EC-908, "DTC Index"

.

NO

>> GO TO 2.

2.

PRECONDITIONING

If DTC Confirmation Procedure has been previously conducted, always turn ignition switch OFF and wait at
least 1 minute before conducting the next test.

>> GO TO 3.

3.

PERFORM DTC CONFIRMATION PROCEDURE

1.

Turn ignition switch ON and wait at least 10 seconds.

2.

Check DTC.

Is DTC detected?

YES

>> Proceed to 

EC-1122, "Diagnosis Procedure"

.

NO-1

>> To check malfunction symptom before repair: Refer to 

GI-44, "Intermittent Incident"

.

NO-2

>> Confirmation after repair: INSPECTION END

1.

CHECK DTC PRIORITY

If DTC P1489 is displayed with DTC P1480, P1481, P1482, P1483, P1484, P1485, P1486, P1487 or P1488,
first perform the trouble diagnosis for DTC P1480, P1481, P1482, P1483, P1484, P1485, P1486, P1487 or
P1488.

Is applicable DTC detected?

DTC No.

• ECM detects a short circuit to ground.
• EGR cooler (low pressure) temperature is 180

CHECK ECM HARNESS CONNECTOR CONNECTIONS

Check ECM harness connector connection.

Is the inspection result normal?

YES

>> GO TO 3.

NO

>> Repair or replace error-detected parts.

3.

CHECK LOW PRESSURE EGR VOLUME CONTROL VALVE HARNESS CONNECTOR CONNECTIONS

Check low pressure EGR volume control valve harness connector connection.

Is the inspection result normal?

YES

>> GO TO 4.

NO

>> Repair or replace error-detected parts.

4.

CHECK LOW PRESSURE EGR VOLUME CONTROL VALVE CIRCUIT FOR OPEN AND SHORT

1.

Turn ignition switch OFF.

2.

Check low pressure EGR volume control valve circuit for open and short.

Is the inspection result normal?

YES

>> GO TO 5.

NO

>> Repair or replace error-detected parts.

5.

CHECK DIESEL PARTICULATE FILTER

Refer to 

EC-1173, "Component Inspection"

.

Is the inspection result normal?

YES

>> GO TO 6.

NO

>> Replace diesel particulate filter.

6.

CHECK LOW PRESSURE EGR VOLUME CONTROL VALVE UPSTREAM TEMPERATURE SENSOR

Refer to 

EC-1123, "Component Inspection (Low Pressure EGR Temperature Sensor)"

.

Is the inspection result normal?

YES

>> INSPECTION END

NO

>> Replace error-detected parts.

CHECK LOW PRESSURE EGR TEMPERATURE SENSOR

1.

Disconnect low pressure EGR volume control valve upstream temperature sensor harness connector.

2.

Check resistance between low pressure EGR temperature sensor terminals under the following condi-
tions.
