ACCELERATOR PEDAL POSITION SENSOR

The accelerator pedal position sensor detects the amount of 
travel of the accelerator pedal. Mounted on the accelerator 
pedal arm, this sensor outputs a voltage signal, which corre-
sponds to the amount of pedal travel, to the powertrain control 
module (PCM). Through this signal, the PCM determines the 
target opening of the throttle valve. This accelerator pedal posi-
tion sensor uses a non-contact Hall IC to enhance its reliability. 
The construction and operation of this sensor are basically the 
same as ENDEAVOR.

FUEL INJECTION CONTROL

The fuel injection control is basically the same as 
that for the 2.4L engine installed in the LANCER 
WAGON.

HEATED OXYGEN SENSOR

The heated oxygen sensor detects lean/rich oxygen 
in the exhaust. The heated oxygen sensor (front) and 
heated oxygen sensor (rear) are located in the front 
and rear of the dual manifold catalytic converter 
(MCC) respectively, which are 4 in total. With per-
forming the closed loop control per MCC by using the 

output signal from heated oxygen sensor (front), 
PCM corrects the output signal from the heated oxy-
gen sensor (front) by using the output signal from the 
heated oxygen sensor (rear). Accordingly, the heated 
oxygen sensor can control exhaust gas more accu-
rately than the conventional one.

THROTTLE VALVE OPENING ANGLE CONTROL

The throttle valve opening angle control is basically 
the same as that for the 3.8L engine installed in the 
ENDEAVOR.
