CIRCUIT OPERATION
The ETACS-ECU operates various functions 
according to the input signal from the driver's or front 
passenger's door switch.

TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION (COMMENT) 
The driver's and front passenger's door switch and 
door switches are used to operate the following 
devices or systems:

•

Ignition key reminder tone alarm function (driver's 
door switch only)

•

Light reminder tone alarm function (driver's door 
switch only)

•

Forgotten key prevention function (driver's and 
front passenger's door switch only)

•

Power window timer function (driver's and front 
passenger's door switch only)

•

Keyless entry system <vehicles with keyless 
entry system> (door switch)

•

Dome light (door switch)

•

Theft-alarm system <vehicles with theft-alarm 
system> (door switch)

If the signal fails, these devices will not work 
normally.

TROUBLESHOOTING HINTS

•

Malfunction of the driver's, front passenger's or 
rear door switch

•

Malfunction of the ETACS-ECU

•

Damaged harness wires or connectors

MB991529: Diagnostic Trouble Code Check Harness

STEP 1. Check the door switch.

Q: Is the door switch in good condition?

YES : Go to Step 2.
NO :  Replace it. The driver's and front passenger's door 

switch and door switches input signal should be able 
to be checked and the functions, which are described 
in the "Technical Description (comment)," should work 
normally.

STEP 2. Check the door switch installation state.

NOTE: The door switch is grounded to the body through the 
mounting screws.
Remove the cap and measure the resistance between the 
lower metal part and the ground.

Q: Is the resistance less than 2 ohm?

YES : Go to Step 3.
NO :  Check the installation state and repair. The driver's 

and front passenger's door switch and door switches 
input signal should be able to be checked and the 
functions, which are described in the "Technical 
Description (comment)," should work normally.

STEP 3. Check the location of malfunction.

Q: Which door switch signal is not input?

Driver's door : Go to Step 4.
Front passenger's door : Go to Step 6.
Rear door (LH) : Go to Step 8.
Rear door (RH) : Go to Step 10.

STEP 4. Check driver's door switch connector D-21 and 
ETACS-ECU connector C-86 for damage. 
Q: Are driver's door switch connector D-21 and ETACS-

ECU connector C-86 in good condition?
YES : Go to Step 5.
NO :  Repair or replace them. Refer to GROUP 00E, 

Harness Connector Inspection

. The driver's 

door switch input signal should be able to be checked 
and the functions, which are described in the 
"Technical Description (comment)," should work 
normally.

STEP 5. Check the harness wires between driver's door 
switch connector D-21 and ETACS-ECU connector C-86.
NOTE: After checking junction block connector C-87, check the 
wires. If junction block connector C-87 is damaged, repair or 
replace it. Refer to GROUP 00E, Harness Connector 
Inspection

Q: Is the harness wires between the driver's door switch 

connector D-21 and ETACS-ECU connector C-86 in 
good condition?
YES : Replace the ETACS-ECU. The driver's door switch 

input signal should be able to be checked and the 
functions, which are described in the "Technical 
Description (comment)," should work normally.

NO :  Repair them. The driver's door switch input signal 

should be able to be checked and the functions, 
which are described in the "Technical Description 
(comment)," should work normally.

STEP 6. Check front passenger's door switch connector D-
08 and ETACS-ECU connectors C-82 and C-86 for damage. 
Q: Are front passenger's door switch connector D-21 and 

ETACS-ECU connectors C-82 and C-86 in good 
condition?
YES : Go to Step 7.
NO :  Repair or replace them. Refer to GROUP 00E, 

Harness Connector Inspection  

P.00E-2

. The front 

passenger's door switch input signal should be able to 
be checked and the functions, which are described in 
the "Technical Description (comment)," should work 
normally.
