DIAGNOSIS TROUBLE CODE PROCEDURES

Diagnosis code No. B1709: ETACS-ECU Internal Error (EEPROM Problem)

Diagnosis code No. B1710: ETACS-ECU Internal Error (ROM Problem)

Diagnosis code No. B1711: ETACS-ECU Internal Error (RAM Problem)

CAUTION

• If diagnosis code No.B1709, B1710 or B1711

are set in the ETACS-ECU, diagnose the CAN
bus lines.

• Whenever the ECU is replaced, ensure that

the input and output signal circuits are nor-
mal.

TROUBLE JUDGMENT

If there is any trouble in the ETACS-ECU, diagnosis
code No. B1709, B1710, B1711 will be set.

COMMENT ON TROUBLE SYMPTOM

The wiring harness wire or connectors may have
loose, corroded, or damage terminals, or terminals
pushed back in the connector, or the ETACS-ECU
may be defective.

PROBABLE CAUSES

• Malfunction of the ETACS-ECU

• Damaged harness wires and connectors

DIAGNOSIS PROCEDURE

Step 1. M.U.T.-III CAN bus diagnostics
Use the M.U.T.-III to diagnose the CAN bus lines.

Q: Is the check result normal?

YES :

Go to Step 2.

NO :

Repair the CAN bus line (Refer to GROUP
54D

Step 2. ECU check by using the SWS monitor.
Check that the SWS communication lines are in
good condition.

• Ignition switch: ON

ECU TO BE CHECKED

• ETACS ECU

OK: "OK" is displayed on the "ETACS ECU"
menu

Q: Is the check result normal?

YES :

Go to Step 3.

NO :

Refer to Inspection Procedure A-3
"Communication with the ETACS-ECU is
not possible

Step 3. Check whether the diagnosis code is
reset.
Recheck if the diagnosis code is set.
(1) Erase the diagnosis code.
(2) Turn the ignition switch to the "LOCK" (OFF)

position to "ON" position.

(3) On completion, check that the diagnosis code is

not reset.

Q: Is the check result normal?

YES :

The trouble can be an intermittent
