13A-165

Code No. P0500: Vehicle Speed Signal System <M/T>

FUNCTION

• The vehicle speed signals are input to

engine-ECU from ABS-ECU through CAN com-
munication.

TROUBLE JUDGMENT

Check Conditions

• 2 seconds later after the ignition switch has been

in "ON" position or the engine has started up.

• Engine speed is 2,500 − 4,000 r/min.

• Under the high load operation

Judgment Criteria

• For 4 seconds, the vehicle speed information

received using the CAN does not change.

or

• For 4 seconds, the vehicle speed information

received using the CAN is abnormal.

PROBABLE CAUSES

• Failed ABS-ECU

• Failed CAN

• Failed engine-ECU

DIAGNOSIS PROCEDURE

STEP 1. M.U.T.-III diagnosis code

Q: Is diagnosis code related with CAN communication

displayed?
YES :

Inspection chart for diagnosis code (Refer

to

P.13A-20

).

NO :

Go to Step 2 .

STEP 2. M.U.T.-III other system diagnosis code

• Confirm whether the diagnosis codes are output

from ABS-ECU.

Q:  Is the diagnosis code output?

YES :

Perform the troubleshooting of ABS (Refer

to GROUP 35B

− Troubleshooting − Check

Chart for Diagnosis Code

P.35B-7

).

NO :

Replace the engine-ECU (Refer to GROUP
00

− How to Use

Troubleshooting/Inspection Service Points

−

How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunctions
