SYMPTOM PROCEDURES

SMART WIRING SYSTEM (SWS) USING SWS MONITOR

Step 3. Use the SWS monitor to examine the 
keyless entry system for signal reception.

Check the condition of the keyless entry transmitter.

OK: By operating the switch as shown in the 
table above, relevant normal conditions are 
displayed.

Q: Are the check result normal?

YES : 

Go to Step 4.

NO : 

Refer to Inspection Procedure Q-23 "Each 
switch signal of the keyless entry transmitter 
is not received

Step 4. Retest the system.

Check that the encrypted code can be registered.

Q: Is the check result normal?

YES : 

The trouble can be an intermittent 

malfunction (Refer to GROUP 00

Cope with Intermittent Malfunction

).

NO : 

Replace the ETACS-ECU.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE E-4: The Timer Lock Function does not Work after the Doors have been 
Unlocked by the Keyless Entry System.

CAUTION

Whenever the ECU is replaced, ensure that the 
input and output signal circuits are normal.

COMMENT ON TROUBLE SYMPTOM

If the keyless entry timer lock does not work 
normally, the input signal circuit(s) to the keyless 
entry transmitter or the ETACS-ECU may be 
defective.

POSSIBLE CAUSES

• Malfunction of the keyless entry transmitter

• Malfunction of the ETACS-ECU

• Damaged harness wires and connectors

DIAGNOSIS PROCEDURE

Step 1. Check the operation of the keyless entry 
system.

Check that the keyless entry system works normally.

Q: Is the check result normal?

YES : 

Go to Step 2.

NO : 

Refer to inspection procedure E-1 "Keyless 
entry system does not work

Step 2. Customize function by using the SWS 
monitor.

"KEYLESS LOCK T" is set to one of the followings by 
using SWS monitor customization function. Check 
that the timer lock is activated according to the 
setting.

• 30s

• 60s

• 120s

• 180s

Q: Is the check result normal?

YES : 

The trouble can be an intermittent 

malfunction (Refer to GROUP 00

).

NO : 

Replace the ETACS-ECU.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE E-5: Multimode keyless entry system function does not work at all.

CAUTION

Whenever the ECU is replaced, ensure that the 
input and output signal circuits are normal.

COMMENTS ON TROUBLE SYMPTOM

If the electric-folding door mirrors work normally, the 
ETACS-ECU may be defective.

POSSIBLE CAUSES

• Malfunction of the keyless entry transmitter

• Malfunction of the ETACS-ECU

DIAGNOSIS PROCEDURE

Step 1. Check the operation of the electric folding 
outside rear-view mirrors.

Check that the electric folding outside rear-view 
mirrors operate normally by using the remote 
controlled mirror switch (folding/unfolding switch).

Q: Is the check result normal?

YES : 

Go to Step 2

NO : 

Refer to Inspection Procedure J-1 "Electric 
retractable remote controlled door mirror 
does not work at all.

Step 2. Check the keyless entry transmitter.

Check that the keyless entry system works normally.

Q: Is the check result normal?

YES : 

Go to Step 3

NO : 

Refer to Inspection Procedure E-1 "Keyless 
Entry System does not Work.

Step 3. ECU check by using the SWS monitor.

Check that the power supply and earth lines to the 
ETACS-ECU and the SWS communication lines are 
normal.

• Ignition switch: OFF

• Operate the multimode function with the keyless 

entry transmitter.

• ETACS ECU

OK: "OK" is displayed on the "ETACS ECU" 
menu.

Q: Is the check result normal?

YES : 

Go to Step 4.

NO : 

Refer to Inspection Procedure A-3 
"Communication with the ETACS-ECU is 
not possible

Step 4. Use the SWS monitor to examine the 
keyless entry system for signal reception.

Check the condition of the keyless entry transmitter.

OK: By operating the switch as shown in the 
table above, relevant normal conditions are 
displayed.

Q: Are the check result normal?

YES : 

Go to Step 5.

NO : 

Refer to inspection procedure Q-23 "Each 
switch signal of the keyless entry transmitter

Step 5. SWS monitor data list.

Check the SWS communication signal, which is 
related to the multi-mode keyless entry system.

• Ignition switch: OFF

• Operate the multi-mode function with the keyless 

entry transmitter.

OK: Normal conditions displayed for all the 
items

Q: Are the check result normal?

Normal conditions are displayed for all the items. : 

Go to Step 6.

Normal condition is not displayed for item No.30 : 

Refer to inspection procedure Q-2 "The 
ignition switch (IG1) signal is not received

Replace the ETACS-ECU.

Step 6. Retest the system.

Check that the multi-mode keyless entry system 
works normally.

Q: Is the check result normal?

YES :

NO : 

Replace the power window main switch.

SUNROOF

Inspection Procedure F-1: The sunroof does not work at all.

CAUTION

Whenever the ECU is replaced, ensure that the 
input and output signal circuits are normal.

COMMENTS ON TROUBLE SYMPTOM

If the sunroof does not work at all, these power 
supply circuit(s), these earth circuit(s), sunroof switch 

or the sunroof motor assembly (sunroof ECU) may 
be defective.

POSSIBLE CAUSES

• Malfunction of the sunroof switch

• Malfunction of the sunroof motor assembly 

(sunroof ECU)

• Malfunction of the power window main switch

• Damaged harness wires and connectors

DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE

Step 1. Check the power window main switch.

Check that the power window lock switch is turned 
off.

Q: Is the check result normal?

YES : 

Go to Step 2.

NO : 

Turn off the power window lock switch.

Step 2. ECU check on the SWS monitor.

Check that the power supply and earth lines to the 
sunroof motor assembly (sunroof-ECU) and the 
ETACS-ECU and the SWS communication lines are 
normal.

• Ignition switch: ON

• Operate the sunroof switch.

• ETACS ECU

• SUNROOF ECU

OK: "OK" are displayed for all the items.

Q: Are the check result normal?

"OK" are displayed for all the items : 

Go to Step 3.

"NG" is displayed on the "ETACS ECU" menu. : 

Refer to Inspection Procedure A-3 
"Communication with the ETACS-ECU is 
not possible

Step 3. Check the power window main switch.

Check that all of the front passenger's and rear door 
power windows can operate by means of the power 
window main switch.

Q: Is the check result normal?

YES : 

Go to Step 4.

NO : 

Refer to Inspection Procedure D-1 "Power 
windows do not work at all

Step 4. Function diagnosis by using the SWS 
monitor

Check the SWS communication signal, which are 
related to the sunroof.

• Ignition switch: ON

OK: Normal conditions are displayed for all 
the items.

Q: Are the check result normal?

Normal conditions are displayed for all the items. : 

Go to Step 5.

Normal condition is not displayed for item No.30 : 

Refer to inspection procedure Q-2 "The 
ignition switch (IG1) signal is not received

the sunroof switch is operated, the switch

Step 5. Retest the system.

The sunroof assembly should now work normally.

Replace the sunroof motor assembly.
