Inspection Procedure 3: The ambient air temperature is not displayed normally. <Vehicles with auto
A/C>

CIRCUIT OPERATION

• For the vehicles with auto A/C, the RV meter

receives and displays the ambient temperature
information from the A/C-ECU by CAN communi-
cation. Also, the ambient temperature displayed
on the RV meter is corrected by the vehicle
speed of the vehicle speed sensor.

• If the function type is set as 3 or 4 by mistake, the

ambient temperature cannot be displayed.

COMMENTS ON TROUBLE SYMPTOM
When other indications are normal, the malfunction
of A/C-ECU or CAN bus line is considered.

PROBABLE CAUSES

• Malfunction of the A/C-ECU

• Malfunction of the CAN bus line

• Damaged harness wires and connectors

DIAGNOSIS PROCEDURE

STEP 1. Check the function type in the service
mode.
Check that the function type is set as 1 or 2 in the
service mode. (Refer to

P.54A-457

.)

Q: Is the check result satisfactory?

YES :

Go to Step 2

NO :

Set the function type again in the service
mode, and recheck the trouble symptom.
(Refer to

P.54A-457

.)

STEP 2. Check the RV meter.
Check that the average vehicle speed and the aver-
age fuel consumption are displayed normally, and
check that the connection with the vehicle speed
sensor is normal.

Q: Is the check result satisfactory?

YES :

Go to Step 3

NO :

Perform the troubleshooting, Inspection
Procedure 2: "The drive information is not
displayed normally". (Refer to

P.54A-474

.)

STEP 3. M.U.T.-III CAN bus diagnostics
Use the M.U.T-III to diagnose the CAN bus lines.

Q: Is the check result satisfactory?

YES :

Go to Step 4

NO :

Repair the CAN bus lines (Refer to GROUP
54C, Diagnosis - Can Bus Diagnostics Table
). After diagnosing the CAN bus lines, go to
Step 4.

STEP 4. M.U.T-III other system diagnosis code.
Check whether the A/C-ECU diagnosis code is set.

Q: Is the diagnosis code set?

YES :

Diagnose A/C-ECU (Refer to GROUP 55B,

Troubleshooting ), and then go to Step 5.

NO :

Go to Step 5

STEP 5. Recheck for malfunction.

Q: Is a malfunction eliminated?

YES :

If no malfunctions are found in all steps, an

intermittent malfunction is suspected. Refer
to GROUP 00, How to Use Troubleshooting/
Inspection Service Points

− How to Cope

with Intermittent Malfunction .

NO :

Replace the RV meter.

Inspection Procedure 4: The freeze mark does not illuminate or flash normally. The freeze warning
buzzer does not sound.

CIRCUIT OPERATION
If the ambient temperature of RV meter becomes
3

°C or lower when the ignition switch is turned ON,

the freeze mark flashes for 10 seconds on the RV
meter and the ETACS-ECU buzzer sounds at the
same time.

NOTE: If the destination setting is wrong, normal
operation is not possible because the threshold val-
ues of the freeze mark or freeze warning buzzer are
different.

Conditions

Display control

When the air temperature is 3

°C or lower, at the ignition

switch "ON" position.

The ETACS-ECU buzzer (freeze warning buzzer)
sounds and the freeze mark flashes for 10
seconds.

When the air temperature that is over 3

°C at the ignition

switch "ON" position changes to 3

°C or lower.

After the
warnings
described as
above is
operated.

When the air temperature that is 6

°C or

higher changes to 3

°C or lower

When the air temperature reaches to 6

°C, the

freeze mark disappears, and when the air
temperature decreases to 3

°C or lower again,

the freeze mark flashes for 10 seconds.
However, the buzzer does not sound.

When the air temperature that is over 3
°C but below 6 °C decreases to 3 °C or
lower

When the air temperature is over 3

°C but below

°C, the freeze mark keeps displaying. If the air

temperature decreases to 3

°C or lower again,

the buzzer does not sound and the freeze mark
does not flash again.
