Installation 

1. To install, reverse removal procedure. Lubricate the brake shoe contact point before installation of rear 

brake shoes using Silicone Brake Caliper Grease and Dielectric Compound (D7AZ-19A331-A Motorcraft 
WA-10) or an equivalent silicone compound meeting Ford specification ESE-M1C171-A. Install the rear 
brake shoes and linings along with the inboard brake shoe retracting spring.  

2. Install the brake shoe hold-down springs. See Fig. 76 .  

3. Install the brake adjuster screw.  

4. Install the brake shoe adjusting screw spring.  

5. Install the outboard brake shoe retracting spring.  

6. Use Brake Adjusting Gauge (D81L-1103-A) to measure the inside diameter of the drum portion of the

rear brake disc. See Fig. 77 .  

7. Use Brake Adjusting Gauge to set the rear brake shoe and lining diameter to 0.020" (0.5 mm) less than 

the inside diameter to the drum portion of the rear brake disc. See Fig. 78 .  

8. Install the rear brake disc.  

9. Install the rear disc brake caliper.  

10. Clean the wheel hub mounting surface.  

11. Apply tension to the parking brake cable system. Hold the front parking brake cable and conduit taut. 

Remove the retainer from the parking brake control.  

12. Check the operation of the parking brake.

REAR BRAKE DISC 

Removal & Installation 

1. Raise and support vehicle. Remove wheel. 

NOTE:

When removing the rear brake disc in this procedure, it is not necessary to 
disconnect the hydraulic lines.

2. Remove caliper. See REAR DISC BRAKE CALIPERS & PADS .  

3. Remove brake disc. If the rear brake disc binds on the rear parking brake shoe and linings, remove the 

adjustment hole access plug and contract the parking brake shoe and lining. See Fig. 76 . 

4. Measure the rear brake disc, and resurface if the disc surface has been scored. See Fig. 79 . Install a new 

rear brake disc if below minimum thickness specification.  

5. To install, reverse removal procedure. Install NEW copper washers when installing brake hose-to-caliper 

bolt, if disconnected. Tighten bolts and nuts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Bleed 
brakes. See BLEEDING BRAKE SYSTEM .

REAR BRAKE SHOES (F150 HERITAGE PICKUP & F150 PICKUP) 

NOTE:

Use a hub-mount brake lathe if necessary to machine the rear brake disc.
