Ford F150 Pickup. Instruction - part 1382

KOEO & KOER Self-Test Codes

Record DTCs in order received. These DTCs indicate current faults in system and should be serviced in order of
appearance. If KOEO or KOER DTCs are retrieved, see DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS
in SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - CNG, FLEX-FUEL & GASOLINE article to identify appropriate system test to
perform.

Pass Codes

SYSTEM PASS indicates no DTCs were recorded in that portion of test. If SYSTEM PASS is not retrieved in
KOEO self-test, DTCs retrieved during KOER self-test may not be valid.

AFCM Continuous Memory Self-Test Codes

Continuous Memory self-test DTCs result from information stored by PCM during continuous self-test
monitoring. Use these DTCs for diagnosis only when KOEO self-test and KOER self-test result in SYSTEM
PASS and all steps under QUICK TEST are successfully completed. These DTCs indicate faults previously
recorded. To retrieve AFCM Continuous Memory DTCs, see AFCM CONTINUOUS MEMORY SELF-
TEST
 .

CLEARING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES

Alternate Fuel Control Module

Perform the following:

z

Turn ignition off. Ensure proper memory (EPROM) card is inserted into NGS tester. Connect scan tool to
Data Link Connector (DLC).

z

Turn ignition on or start engine if necessary.

z

Select VEHICLE & ENGINE SELECTION.

ERROR/DTC NOT LISTED under SYSTEM TESTS in SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - CNG,
FLEX-FUEL & GASOLINE article.

NOTE:

KOER and KOEO self-tests cannot be performed in ALT fuel mode.

CAUTION: DO NOT disconnect vehicle battery to clear DTCs. This will erase

operating information from Keep-Alive Memory (KAM). To clear KAM, see
RESETTING KEEP-ALIVE MEMORY (KAM) .

NOTE:

For compuvalve reset, see PROGRAMMING .

z

Record DTCs and perform appropriate system test. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE
DEFINITIONS
. To disconnect scan tool, turn ignition off and disconnect scan tool from DLC and
power supply.

PCM Reset

After a PCM reset procedure has been performed, the following conditions will be met:

z

All DTCs will be cleared from PCM memory.

z

All freeze frame data will be cleared from PCM memory.

z

Diagnostic monitoring results will be cleared from PCM memory.

z

OBD-II system monitor status will reset.

z

DTC P1000 will be set in PCM memory until all OBD-II system monitors or components have been
tested to satisfy OBD-II drive cycle without any faults occurring. To clear DTC P1000, perform OBD-II
DRIVE CYCLE. See DRIVE CYCLES .

To perform PCM reset using scan tool, follow scan tool manufacturer's operating instructions. If after clearing
DTCs a fault has not been corrected or fault still exists, hard code will immediately be reset in PCM memory.

PCM Resetting Keep-Alive Memory (KAM)

1. Resetting KAM will return PCM memory to its default setting. If not using a scan tool, disconnect

negative battery terminal for a minimum for 5 minutes then go to next step. If using New Generation Star
(NGS) tester, turn ignition switch to ON position. Select ACTIVE COMMAND MODES, then RESET
KEEP ALIVE MEMORY. Go to next step.

2. After KAM has been reset, engine must idle for 15 minutes to learn new idle air trim values. Idle quality

will improve as strategy adapts. Adaptation occurs in 4 separate modes with engine idling, transmission
selector and A/C in specified position. See IDLE AIR TRIM LEARNING MODES table.

IDLE AIR TRIM LEARNING MODES

NOTE:

The AFCM supports some DTCs and PIDs which appear similar to PCM,
but may have an entirely different meaning.

CAUTION: When battery is disconnected, vehicle computer may lose memory data.

Driveability problems may exist until computer systems have completed a
relearn cycle. See COMPUTER RELEARN PROCEDURES article in
GENERAL INFORMATION before disconnecting the battery.

QUICK TEST

Quick Test is divided into 3 specialized test procedures that are functional tests of EEC-V system. All self-tests
are completely menu driven using New Generation Star (NGS) tester. The following procedures must be
followed in sequence to avoid misdiagnosis:

z

VISUAL CHECK

z

VEHICLE PREPARATION & EQUIPMENT HOOKUP

z

Perform KOEO on-demand self-test. See KOEO ON-DEMAND SELF-TEST under QUICK TEST in
SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - CNG, FLEX-FUEL & GASOLINE article.
