Ford F150 Pickup. Instruction - part 1368

z

Natural gas (and all other fuel vapors) can be harmful if inhaled.

z

All fuels can be harmful or fatal if swallowed.

z

All fuels are irritating to eyes and respiratory system.

Handling

z

Be aware of Mercurous Mercaptan "Rotten egg" smell of natural gas.

z

Use flammable gas handling precautions.

z

Keep flammable gases in approved, labeled containers.

z

Use in well ventilated areas and control vapors. Be aware that natural gas is not visible, is lighter than air,
can travel along the ceiling, and may collect in high hollows.

z

When transferring flammable gases, connect vent stack to source, and ground source to earth.

z

DO NOT smoke, or use heat/spark producing equipment near natural gas.

z

DO NOT eat, drink or smoke where fuels are handled, processed or stored.

z

Wash hands thoroughly after handling any fuel.

Leakage

z

Notify proper authorities in event of any leakage you have not been trained to address.

z

Stop, and allow fuel to ventilate to outside atmosphere after any fuel escape.

DRIVE CYCLE

For gasoline engine related drive cycles, see DRIVE CYCLES in SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - CNG, FLEX-FUEL
& GASOLINE article.

OBD-II BI-FUEL DRIVE CYCLE DESCRIPTION

z

When a fault is detected for the first time the DTC is stored in the AFCM memory.

z

When the same fault is detected in two consecutive trips or if the fault is emission related, the PCM will
illuminate the MIL. The PCM will cease MIL illumination if the fault condition no longer exists or when
the vehicle is driven two times with no fault detected.

z

The PCM will also cease MIL illumination if the vehicle auto-switches to gasoline. The drive cycle is
counted only when the recorded driving pattern is met. If another fault occurs while counting, the counter
will reset.

z

The DTC can be displayed until the vehicle is driven 40 times.

NOTE:

Rough road conditions may prevent certain steady state conditions and steady
accelerations from validating the transmission and load related monitors. On
models with Power Take-Off (PTO), disengage PTO system before performing
drive cycle.

OBD-II BI-FUEL DRIVE CYCLE TRIP

A trip is defined as a key-on, key-off event in which the PCM and AFCM detect the following:

z

Engine coolant should exceed 160°F (71°C).

z

Engine coolant temperature should change more than 40°F (22°C) after starting the engine.

z

Engine speed should exceed 400 RPM.

z

Vehicle speed above 3 MPH.

When the AFCM detects an emission related DTC, it uses the trip information to determine MIL light status.

If a fault exists in the system being tested, a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) will be stored in the AFCM
memory. Depending on the type of fault detected, some DTCs will command immediate MIL illumination.
Other faults will cause the AFCM to store the DTC in memory but not illuminate the MIL until the fault is
detected again on a subsequent trip (2nd trip).

SUMMARY

If no DTC exists but driveability problem still exists, proceed to TROUBLE SHOOTING - NO CODES - BI-
FUEL - GASOLINE/CNG
article for symptom diagnosis or intermittent diagnostic procedures.

DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS

DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS

NOTE:

Prior to performing any system test, see HOW TO USE SYSTEM TESTS under
SYSTEM TESTS. On some models, PCM is capable of storing some body DTCs.
If any "B" DTCs are retrieved (example DTC B1213), see appropriate MODULE
COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT to
determine test to perform.

NOTE:

If Powertrain Control Module (PCM) is replaced, new PCM must be programmed.
See PROGRAMMING . If Alternate Fuel Control Module (AFCM) is replaced,
perform AFCM reset procedure. For AFCM related DTC definitions, see
DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS table. For PCM related DTC
definitions, see DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS in SELF-
DIAGNOSTICS - CNG, FLEX-FUEL & GASOLINE article.
