Remove EVAP canister tube from EVAP canister. Attempt to pressurize system to 14 in. H2O (3.48 
kPa). If system pressurizes, go to next step. If system does not pressurize, replace EVAP canister. 
Perform evaporative emissions system leak test. See EVAPORATIVE EMISSIONS SYSTEM LEAK 
TEST
 . If system passes, perform DRIVE CYCLES in SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - CNG, FLEX-FUEL & 
GASOLINE article. Ensure PENDING CODE CHECK & EVAP MONITOR "BYPASS" CHECK is 
performed. 

6. Testing Fuel Vapor Control Valve Tube Assembly For Blockage 

 
Disconnect EVAP canister tube at fuel vapor control valve tube assembly. Attempt to pressurize system 
to 14 in. H2O (3.48 kPa). If system pressurizes, replace fuel vapor control valve tube assembly. Perform 
evaporative emissions system leak test. See EVAPORATIVE EMISSIONS SYSTEM LEAK TEST . 
If system passes, perform DRIVE CYCLES in SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - CNG, FLEX-FUEL & 
GASOLINE article. Ensure PENDING CODE CHECK & EVAP MONITOR "BYPASS" CHECK is 
performed. If system does not pressurize, replace EVAP canister tube. Perform evaporative emissions 
system leak test. See EVAPORATIVE EMISSIONS SYSTEM LEAK TEST . If system passes, 
perform DRIVE CYCLES in SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - CNG, FLEX-FUEL & GASOLINE article. 
Ensure PENDING CODE CHECK & EVAP MONITOR "BYPASS" CHECK is performed.  

Mustang 

1. Testing fuel Filler Pipe & Check Valve - Remove fuel filler cap. Connect Evaporative Emissions 

System Leak Tester (134-00056) to fuel filler pipe. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, close canister vent 
solenoid. Select OUTPUT TEST MODE, FTP and FTP V PID. Select ALL OFF mode. Press START 
button on scan tool to close canister vent solenoid. Access PCM PID FTP V. Pressurize system to 14 in. 
H2O (3.48 kPa). If PCM PID FTP V is 4.22-4.90 volts, go to next step. If PCM PID FTP V is not as 
specified, go to step 10 . 

2. Testing EVAP System For Restriction 

 
Attempt to pressurize system to 14 in. H2O (3.48 kPa). If system pressurizes, go to next step. If system 
does not pressurize, perform evaporative emissions system leak test. See EVAPORATIVE EMISSIONS 
SYSTEM LEAK TEST
 . If system passes, perform DRIVE CYCLES in SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - 
CNG, FLEX-FUEL & GASOLINE article. Ensure PENDING CODE CHECK & EVAP MONITOR 
"BYPASS" CHECK is performed. 

3. Testing Fresh Air Vent Hose For Blockage 

 
Disconnect fresh air vent hose from fuel filler pipe inside trunk. Pressurize system to 14 in. H2O (3.48 
kPa). If pressure drops immediately, replace fresh air vent hose. Perform evaporative emissions system 
leak test. See EVAPORATIVE EMISSIONS SYSTEM LEAK TEST . If system passes, perform 
DRIVE CYCLES in SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - CNG, FLEX-FUEL & GASOLINE article. Ensure 
PENDING CODE CHECK & EVAP MONITOR "BYPASS" CHECK is performed. If pressure does not 
drop immediately, go to next step. 

4. Testing Fresh Air Vent Hose At Fuel Filler Pipe For Blockage

Disconnect fresh air vent hose at fuel filler pipe. Pressurize system to 14 in. H2O (3.48 kPa). If pressure 
drops immediately, replace fuel filler pipe. Perform evaporative emissions system leak test. See 
EVAPORATIVE EMISSIONS SYSTEM LEAK TEST . If system passes, perform DRIVE CYCLES 
in SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - CNG, FLEX-FUEL & GASOLINE article. Ensure PENDING CODE 
CHECK & EVAP MONITOR "BYPASS" CHECK is performed. If pressure does not drop immediately, 
go to next step. 

5. Testing Tank Vapor Valve Assembly Fresh Air Tube For Blockage 

 
Disconnect tank vapor valve assembly fresh air tube from canister vent solenoid vent hose. Pressurize 
system to 14 in. H2O (3.48 kPa). If pressure drops immediately, replace tank vapor valve assembly fresh 
air tube. Perform evaporative emissions system leak test. See EVAPORATIVE EMISSIONS SYSTEM 
LEAK TEST
 . If system passes, perform DRIVE CYCLES in SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - CNG, FLEX-
FUEL & GASOLINE article. Ensure PENDING CODE CHECK & EVAP MONITOR "BYPASS" 
CHECK is performed. If pressure does not drop immediately, go to next step. 

6. Testing Canister Vent Solenoid Hose For Blockage 

 
Disconnect canister vent solenoid hose at canister vent solenoid. Pressurize system to 14 in. H2O (3.48 
kPa). If pressure drops immediately, replace canister vent solenoid hose. Perform evaporative emissions 
system leak test. See EVAPORATIVE EMISSIONS SYSTEM LEAK TEST . If system passes, 
perform DRIVE CYCLES in SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - CNG, FLEX-FUEL & GASOLINE article. 
Ensure PENDING CODE CHECK & EVAP MONITOR "BYPASS" CHECK is performed. If pressure 
does not drop immediately, go to next step. 

7. Testing EVAP Canister Vent Solenoid For Blockage 

 
Disconnect canister vent solenoid from EVAP canister. Pressurize system to 14 in. H2O (3.48 kPa). If 
pressure drops immediately, replace canister vent solenoid. Perform evaporative emissions system leak 
test. See EVAPORATIVE EMISSIONS SYSTEM LEAK TEST . If system passes, perform DRIVE 
CYCLES
 in SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - CNG, FLEX-FUEL & GASOLINE article. Ensure PENDING 
CODE CHECK & EVAP MONITOR "BYPASS" CHECK is performed. If pressure does not drop 
immediately, go to next step. 

8. Testing EVAP Canister For Blockage 

 
Disconnect EVAP canister inlet elbow from EVAP canister. Pressurize system to 14 in. H2O (3.48 kPa). 
If pressure drops immediately, replace EVAP canister. Perform evaporative emissions system leak test. 
See EVAPORATIVE EMISSIONS SYSTEM LEAK TEST . If system passes, perform DRIVE 
CYCLES
 in SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - CNG, FLEX-FUEL & GASOLINE article. Ensure PENDING 
CODE CHECK & EVAP MONITOR "BYPASS" CHECK is performed. If pressure does not drop 
immediately, go to next step. 

9. Testing EVAP Canister Inlet Elbow For Blockage 

 
Disconnect fuel vapor control valve tube from EVAP canister inlet elbow. Pressurize system to 14 in.

H2O (3.48 kPa). If pressure drops immediately, replace EVAP canister inlet elbow. Perform evaporative 
emissions system leak test. See EVAPORATIVE EMISSIONS SYSTEM LEAK TEST . If system 
passes, perform DRIVE CYCLES in SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - CNG, FLEX-FUEL & GASOLINE 
article. Ensure PENDING CODE CHECK & EVAP MONITOR "BYPASS" CHECK is performed. If 
pressure does not drop immediately, go to next step. 

10. Check For Pinched Fuel Vapor Control Valve Tube 

 
Lower fuel tank about 3/4" (19 mm). If not already done, close canister vent solenoid. Select OUTPUT 
TEST MODE, FTP and FTP V PID. Select ALL OFF mode. Press START button on scan tool to close 
canister vent solenoid. Access PCM PID FTP V. Pressurize system to 14 in. H2O (3.48 kPa). If PCM PID 
FTP V is 4.22-4.90 volts, replace fuel vapor control valve tube assembly. Perform evaporative emissions 
system leak test. See EVAPORATIVE EMISSIONS SYSTEM LEAK TEST . If system passes, 
perform DRIVE CYCLES in SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - CNG, FLEX-FUEL & GASOLINE article. 
Ensure PENDING CODE CHECK & EVAP MONITOR "BYPASS" CHECK is performed. If PCM PID 
FTP V is not as specified, go to next step. 

11. Testing For Fuel Filler Tube Assembly Blockage 

 
Disconnect tank vapor recirculation tube from fuel filler pipe and plug both ends. Pressurize system to 14 
in. H2O (3.48 kPa). Remove plug from tank vapor recirculation tube. If pressure drops immediately, 
replace fuel vapor control valve tube assembly. Perform evaporative emissions system leak test. See 
EVAPORATIVE EMISSIONS SYSTEM LEAK TEST . If system passes, perform DRIVE CYCLES 
in SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - CNG, FLEX-FUEL & GASOLINE article. Ensure PENDING CODE 
CHECK & EVAP MONITOR "BYPASS" CHECK is performed. If pressure does not drop immediately, 
replace fuel filler pipe. Perform evaporative emissions system leak test. See EVAPORATIVE 
EMISSIONS SYSTEM LEAK TEST
 . If system passes, perform DRIVE CYCLES in SELF-
DIAGNOSTICS - CNG, FLEX-FUEL & GASOLINE article. Ensure PENDING CODE CHECK & 
EVAP MONITOR "BYPASS" CHECK is performed.
