© 200423 3-5 Removal and installation PIPES/RESERVOIR AND SLAVE CYLINDER ΧΦ65/75/85 series 7 5 3.5 REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION, SLAVE CYLINDER Removing the slave cylinder Clean the pipe connections and the surrounding area. 2. Place the steering gear in the central position. This can be checked using the markings on the steering box. 3. Place a receptacle under the pipe connections. 4. Remove the pipes. Plug the openings. 5. Remove the piston rod (3) from the ball end (1). To do so, slacken the bolt of clamping bracket (2) and screw the piston rod (3) from the ball end (1). 6. Unscrew the lock nut (7) and remove the cylinder (5) from the ball end (8). 7. Remove the cylinder (5) from the vehicle and push the piston rod (3) fully into the cylinder (5), to avoid damaging the piston rod. Installing the slave cylinder Thoroughly clean and check the clamping bracket bolt (2). If corroded or damaged, replace the bolt. Replace the self-locking nut. Check the ball ends (1) and (8) for damage and play, and replace if necessary. 2. Screw the cylinder (5) as far as possible onto the ball end (8), making sure that the pipe connections (4) and (6) are at the top of the cylinder (5). 3. Tighten the lock nut (7) to the specified tightening torque. See 'Technical data'. 4. Slide the piston rod (3) out of the cylinder (5).
