6.2 TIGHTENING TORQUES

The tightening torques stated in this section are

different from the standard tightening torques

stated in the overview of the standard tightening

torques. The other threaded connections not

specified must therefore be tightened to the

torque stated in the overview of standard

tightening torques.

When attachment bolts and nuts are replaced, it

is important that - unless stated otherwise - these

bolts and nuts are of exactly the same length and

property class as those removed.

(1) Fit new self-locking nut.

(2) Fit new bolt. Apply Loctite 243 to the bolt.

(3) Check the ball end thread for damage before fitting a new self-locking nut.

To do so, hand-tighten a non-self-locking nut on the ball joint to be checked.

If the new nut cannot be fully hand-screwed onto the entire thread, the ball end must be replaced.

Fit new self-locking nut. Apply Loctite 243 to the nut.

(4) Apply Loctite 243 to the nut.

(5) Retorque after 100 km; if new wheel studs have been fitted, the wheels need additional retorquing after 500 km.

(6) Apply new hub nut.

(7) Rotate the hub at a rotational speed of approx. 40 rpm.

Fitting a new self-locking nut to a

ball end with a damaged thread may

lead to dangerous situations.
