Preliminary Procedures 

1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .  

2. Remove the transfer case shield, if equipped. Refer to Transfer Case Shield 

Replacement .

Transfer Case Drain Plug 

Procedure 

1. Allow the transfer case to drain completely.  

2. Apply sealant GM P/N 12346004, (Canadian P/N 10953480), or 

equivalent, to the plug threads.  

 
Tip: Use only hand tools to remove and install the drain plug. 

Tighten: 18 N.m (13 lb ft) 

NOTE:

Refer to Component Fastener Tightening Notice .

Transfer Case Fill Plug 

Procedure 

1. Fill the transfer case to the bottom of the fill plug hole with DEXRON®

VI GM P/N 88861003 (Canadian P/N 88861004).  

2. Apply sealant GM P/N 12346004, (Canadian P/N 10953480), or 

equivalent, to the plug threads.  

 
Tip: Use only hand tools to remove and install the fill plug. 

Tighten: 18 N.m (13 lb ft)

Procedure:  
Lightly lubricate the O-ring with clean DEXRON® VI.

Two/Four Wheel Drive Actuator

Two/Four Wheel Drive Actuator Seal 

Procedure 

1. Use J 45278 and J 23907 to remove the seal from the actuator. See 

Special Tools.  

2. Use the J 44907 to install the seal to the actuator. See Special Tools.  

 
Tip: Remove the seal from the actuator ONLY if seal replacement is necessary.

J 45278 Seal Remover. See Special Tools.
