Lubricate the pinion bearings with axle lubricant. Refer to Fluid and Lubricant IMPORTANT: Press the bearing on until the cone seats on the pinion.

9. Install the pinion in the pinion gear bearing retainer. 10. Apply sealant, GM P/N 12346004 (Canadian P/N 10953480) or equivalent, to the splines of the pinion yoke. Fig. 176: View Of Pinion Shaft & Pinion Yoke Alignment Marks 11. Align the marks made during removal. 12. Install the pinion yoke. 13. Using a soft-faced hammer, tap the pinion yoke until a few threads show through the yoke. 14. Install the washer and the new pinion nut. NOTE: Refer to Pinion Flange/Yoke Installation Notice .

Fig. 177: Installing J 8614-01 To Pinion Yoke 15. Install the J 8614-01 on the pinion yoke. 16. Tighten the pinion nut while holding the J 8614-01 . NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice . IMPORTANT: If the rotating torque is exceeded, the pinion will have to be removed and a new collapsible spacer installed.
