CAUTION!

 

  

  

Before beginning repairs on the electrical 
system:

 

  

  

 

Obtain the anti-theft radio security code.

 

  

  

 

Switch off all electrical consumers.

 

  

  

 

Switch ignition off and remove ignition 
key.

 

  

  

 

Disconnect negative ( - ) battery terminal.

 

  

  

 

When disconnecting and reconnecting 
battery terminals, observe all applicable 
Notes and torque specifications, as well as 
instructions on performing OBD program 
and electrical system function checks as 
specified in this Repair Manual

CAUTION!

 

If the B+ or D+ terminal nut is not 
torqued as specified, the 
following may result:

 

 VAG 1331 Torque wrench (or 

equivalent 5 - 50 Nm ) 

 

Battery will not be completely 
charged

 

 

Vehicle electrical system 
malfunctions

 

 

Danger of sparking

 

 

Damage to electronic 
components and control 
modules due to voltage spikes

     Tightening torque for B+ terminal 

securing nut -arrow-:15 Nm   1 Nm. 
  

Generator with D+ terminal nut 
connection  

     Tightening torque for B+ terminal 

securing nut -1 (M8): 15 Nm   1 Nm. 
  

Tightening torque for D+ terminal 
securing nut -2- (M5): 3 Nm.
