NOTE: When guiding the cable towards the front of (2) Install the intermediate cable to the tensioner bracket by snapping it into place. (3) Reinstall retainer clip on top of left side of crossmember, around intermediate cable and into (4) Connect the intermediate cable to the right rear cable connector. (5) Install the intermediate cable through the hole in the body torque box (Fig. 70). Install the bolt (6) Connect the intermediate cable to the front cable connector. (7) Adjust parking brake. See Adjustments in this group of the service manual for the proper parking (8) Lower the vehicle. PARK BRAKE REAR CABLES This procedure can be used to remove and install either rear park brake cable. REMOVE Raise vehicle using a frame contact type hoist or correctly jack and support the vehicle using jack (1) Loose the park brake cable tensioner nut until tension is removed from cables. (2) Left rear cable only - Remove the rear cable from the connector at the park brake cable tensioner. (3) Right rear cable only - Remove the rear cable from the connector at the intermediate cable. (4) Remove the retainer clip securing the preferred rear park brake cable to the crossmember (Fig. 71). (5) Lower the vehicle enough to have rear brakes at good working height. (6) Remove the rear wheel and tire assembly from the side of the vehicle requiring service to the park (7) Remove the rear disc brake caliper from the adapter and rotor (See Disc Brake Caliper Removal (8) Remove the rear brake rotor from the rear hub/ bearing assembly. (9) Remove the park brake shoes from the disc brake adapter (See Rear Disc Brake Shoes in the (10) Remove the park brake actuator lever from the rear park brake cable. (11) Using a screwdriver, carefully compress the retainer tabs securing the rear park brake cable to (12) Remove the rear park brake cable from the disc brake adapter and vehicle. INSTALL (1) Install the rear parking brake cable by routing the leading end above the intermediate cable, then, (2) Install the other end of the cable into the disc brake adapter, allowing the retainer tabs to lock into (3) Install the park brake actuator lever onto the end of the rear park brake cable behind the spring. (4) Reinstall the park brake shoes. bearing. (6) Reinstall the brake caliper on the rotor and adapter.
