ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION

1. INSPECT SHIFT LEVER POSITION

(a) When moving the shift lever from P to R with the ignition switch ON and brake pedal depressed, make

sure that it moves smoothly and correctly into position.

(b) Start the engine and make sure that the vehicle moves forward after moving the shift lever from N to D

and moves rearward after moving the shift lever to R.

If the operation cannot be performed as specified, inspect the park/neutral position switch assembly and

check the shift lever assembly installation condition.

REMOVAL

1. REMOVE CONSOLE BOX ASSEMBLY

2. REMOVE NO. 1 CONSOLE BOX DUCT (w/ Rear Air Duct)

(a) Remove the 2 clips and No. 1 console box duct.

3. REMOVE SHIFT LEVER ASSEMBLY

(a) Move the shift lever to N.

(b) Disconnect the transmission control cable end from the shift

lever assembly.

(c) Remove the clip and disconnect the transmission control cable

assembly from the shift lever retainer.

(d) Disconnect the clamp and 2 connectors from the shift lever

assembly.

(e) Remove the 4 bolts and shift lever assembly.

DISASSEMBLY

1. REMOVE SHIFT LEVER CAP

(a) Using a screwdriver, detach the 2 claws and remove the shift

lever cap from the upper position indicator housing.

NOTICE:

Be careful not to damage the shift lever cap.

HINT:

Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

2. REMOVE UPPER POSITION INDICATOR HOUSING

(a) Detach the 4 claws and remove the upper position indicator

housing from the shift lever assembly.

3. REMOVE POSITION INDICATOR SLIDE COVER

(a) Remove the position indicator slide cover together with the No.

2 position indicator slide cover from the shift lever assembly.
