Clock System

CHECK BODY INTEGRATED UNIT.
1) Start the engine, and set the vehicle speed 
at 20 km/h (12 MPH) or more.
2) Read the “Front Wheel Speed” of the body 
integrated unit using Subaru Select Monitor.

Select Monitor.>

Is the data displayed as 
999.9 km/h?

Check the follow-
ing items.
• LAN system

Go to step 3.

CHECK BODY INTEGRATED UNIT.
Read the “Front Wheel Speed” of the body inte-
grated unit using Subaru Select Monitor. <Ref. 
to LAN(diag)-12, OPERATION, Subaru Select 
Monitor.>

Is the vehicle speed displayed 
correctly?

Replace the body 
integrated unit. 
<Ref. to SL-56, 
REMOVAL, Body 
Integrated Unit.>

Go to step 4.

CHECK AMBIENT SENSOR.
Blow hot air at the ambient sensor, and read the 
voltage of ambient sensor using Subaru Select 
Monitor. <Ref. to LAN(diag)-12, OPERATION, 
Subaru Select Monitor.>

Does the voltage change?

Go to step 8.

Go to step 5.

CHECK HARNESS.
1) Turn the ignition switch to OFF.
2) Disconnect the connector from the body 
integrated unit and the ambient sensor.
3) Measure the resistance of harness between 
body integrated unit connector and ambient 
sensor connector.

Connector & terminal

(B281) No. 10 — (F78) No. 1:
(B281) No. 3 — (F78) No. 2:

Is the resistance less than 1 

:? Go to step 6.

Repair the open 
circuit of harness.

CHECK HARNESS.
Measure the resistance between body inte-
grated unit connector and chassis ground.

Connector & terminal

(B281) No. 10 — Chassis ground:
(B281) No. 3 — Chassis ground:

Is the resistance less than 1 M

:? Go to step 7.

Repair the short 
circuit of harness.

CHECK AMBIENT SENSOR.
Blow hot air at the ambient sensor, and read the 
resistance between ambient sensor terminals.

Terminals

No. 1 — No. 2:

Does the resistance change?

Replace the body 
integrated unit.

Replace the ambi-
ent sensor.

CHECK AMBIENT SENSOR.
Blow cold air at the ambient sensor, and read 
the ambient temperature using Subaru Select 
Monitor. <Ref. to LAN(diag)-12, OPERATION, 
Subaru Select Monitor.>

Does the temperature change 
(at lower temperatures)?

Replace the clock 
body. <Ref. to IDI-
28, Clock.>

Replace the body 
integrated unit.

Combination Meter

4. Combination Meter

A: REMOVAL

CAUTION:
• Be careful not to damage the meter or instru-
ment panel.
• Pay particular attention to avoid damaging
the meter glass.
1) Disconnect the ground cable from the battery.
2) Set the tilt steering at the lowest position. For
steering wheel with telescopic system, pull the
steering.
3) Remove the instrument panel under cover and
lower cover on driver’s side. <Ref. to EI-51, RE-
MOVAL, Instrument Panel Lower Cover.>
4) Remove the screws of the combination meter
(one on the upper side, two on lower side) and pull
while tilting the meter towards yourself.

5) Disconnect the connector in the rear side of
combination meter to remove meter.

B: INSTALLATION

CAUTION:
• Make sure the electrical connector is con-
nected securely.
• Make sure that each meter operates normal-
ly.
• When the combination meter of model with
immobilizer has been replaced, be sure to per-
form the registration of immobilizer.
Install in the reverse order of removal.

C: DISASSEMBLY

CAUTION:
• Use gloves to avoid damage and getting fingerprints on the glass surface and meter surfaces.
• Be careful not to apply excessive force to the trip knob.
• Be sure not to touch the meter indicator needle.
Disengage claw (A), and remove the meter glass assembly (B) from the meter case assembly (C).

1. BULB REPLACEMENT

LEDs are used for all of warning lights and indicator lights of combination meters, replace the meter case as-
sembly if faulty.

D: ASSEMBLY

Assemble in the reverse order of disassembly.

Speedometer

5. Speedometer

A: SPECIFICATION

Since the meter case assembly cannot be disas-
sembled, do not remove or inspect the speedome-
ter alone. (Do not remove the cover on the back
