INSPECTION PROCEDURE 19

Vehicle speed sensor system

Probable cause

The cause is probably a defective vehicle speed sensor circuit or a defective
engine-A/T-ECU.



Malfunction of the vehicle speed sensor



Malfunction of connector



Malfunction of the engine-A/T-ECU

Check the ignition switch. (Refer to GROUP 54 – Ignition switch.)

Replace the engine-ECU.

Replace the engine-A/T-ECU.

Check the harness wire between the vehicle speed sensor and
the earth, and repair if necessary.

Check the harness wire between the engine-A/T-ECU and the
vehicle speed sensor connector.

Repair

Check trouble symptom.

Check the following connectors: A-71, B-19, B-86

NG

Check the harness wire between the vehicle speed sensor and
ignition switch connector.

NG

Repair

Check trouble symptom.

Check the harness wire
between the engine-
A/T-ECU and the vehicle
speed sensor connector.

Check the following
connector:
A-71

Measure at the vehicle speed sensor connector A-71.



Disconnect the connector, and measure at the harness side.

(1) Voltage between 1 and earth (Ignition switch: ON)

OK:  Battery voltage

(2) Voltage between 3 and earth (Ignition switch: ON)

OK: 4.8  – 5.2 V

(3) Continuity between 2 and earth

OK: Continuity

(1) NG

Check the following
connectors:
B-78, B-80, B-19, A-71

Repair

Check the vehicle speed sensor.
(Refer to GROUP 54 – Combination Meters.)
