STEP 4. Retest the system.
Check that the headlamp automatic-shutdown func-
tion works normally.

Q: Is the check result normal?

YES : 

The trouble can be an intermittent

− How to Cope with Intermittent 

Malfunction ).

NO : 

Replace the ETACS-ECU and register the 
ID codes (Refer to 

P.54A-39

).

Inspection Procedure 7:  Daytime running lamp function does not work normally.

CAUTION

Whenever the ECU is replaced, ensure that the 
input and output signal circuits are normal.
COMMENTS ON TROUBLE SYMPTOM
If the daytime running lamp function is not operating 
normally the ETACS-ECU power circuit may be 
defective or the ETACS-ECU may be defective.

PROBABLE CAUSES

• Malfunction of the ETACS-ECU

• Damaged harness wires and connectors

DIAGNOSIS PROCEDURE

STEP 1. Check that the headlamps operate.
Do the low-beam headlamps illuminate when the 
lighting switch is turned to the HEAD position?

Q: Is the check result normal?

YES : 

Go to Step 2.

NO : 

First, repair the headlamps. Refer to 
Inspection Procedure 1 "None of the low-
beam headlamps illuminat

STEP 2. M.U.T.-III diagnosis code.
When the ignition switch is turned to the "LOCK" 
(OFF) position, check that the ETACS-ECU does not 
set the diagnosis code.

Q: Is the diagnosis code set?

YES : 

Refer to diagnosis code chart

NO : 

Go to Step 3.

STEP 3. M.U.T.-III data list
Check the input signals below, which are related to 
the daytime running lamp function.

• Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position.

OK: Normal condition is displayed.

Q: Is the check result normal?

YES : 

Go to Step 4.

NO : 

Refer to inspection procedure C-3 "The 
ignition switch (IG1) signal is not received

STEP 4. Retest the system.
Check that the daytime running lamp function works 
normally.

Q: Is the check result normal?

YES :

Inspection Procedure 10: The auto lamp function does not work normally.

CAUTION

Whenever the ECU is replaced, ensure that the 
power supply circuit, the earth circuit and the 
communication circuit are normal.
OPERATION
The ETACS-ECU operates this function in accord-
ance with the input signals from lighting control sen-
sor and column switch (auto lamp switch).

COMMENTS ON TROUBLE SYMPTOM
If the auto lamp function does not work normally, the 
above input signal circuit(s) or the ETACS-ECU may 
have a problem.

PROBABLE CAUSES

• Malfunction of the lighting control sensor

• Malfunction of the column switch

• Malfunction of the ETACS-ECU

• Damaged harness wires and connectors

DIAGNOSIS PROCEDURE

STEP 1. M.U.T.-III CAN bus diagnostics
Use the M.U.T.-III to diagnose the CAN bus lines.

Q: Is the check result normal?

YES : 

Go to Step 2.

NO : 

Repair the CAN bus line (Refer to GROUP 
54C 

− Troubleshooting ).

STEP 2. M.U.T.-III diagnosis code
Check if diagnosis code is set to the LIN.

Q: Is the diagnosis code set?

YES : 

Refer to diagnosis code chart

NO : 

Go to Step 3.

STEP 3. M.U.T.-III other system diagnosis code
Check if diagnosis code is set to the ETACS-ECU.

Q: Is the diagnosis code set?

YES : 

Troubleshoot the ETACS-ECU (Refer to 

P.54A-494

).

NO : 

Go to Step 4.

STEP 4. Check that the headlamps operate.
Check that the headlamps (low-beam) illuminate nor-
mally.

Q: Is the check result normal?

YES : 

Go to Step 5.

NO : 

Refer to Inspection Procedure 1 "None of 
the low-beam headlamps illuminate."

STEP 5. Lighting control sensor check
Check the lighting control sensor. Refer to 

P.54A-

Q: Is the check result normal?

YES : 

Go to Step 6.

NO : 

Replace the lighting control sensor.

STEP 6. Retest the system
Check that the auto lamp function works normally.

Q: Is the check result normal?

YES :

Inspection Procedure 8: None of the turn-signal lamps illuminate.

CAUTION

Whenever the ECU is replaced, ensure that the input and output signal circuits are normal.

COMMENTS ON TROUBLE SYMPTOM
If none of the turn-signal lamps does not illuminate, 
the ignition switch (IG1), the turn-signal lamp switch 
input circuit or the ETACS-ECU may be defective. 
Using a customisation function, the turn-signal lamps 
can be operated even when the ignition switch is in 
the ACC position.

PROBABLE CAUSES

• Malfunction of the column switch

• Malfunction of the ETACS-ECU

• Damaged harness wires and connectors

DIAGNOSIS PROCEDURE

STEP 1. M.U.T.-III diagnosis code.
When the ignition switch is turned to the "LOCK" 
(OFF) position, check that the ETACS-ECU does not 
set the diagnosis code.

Q: Is the diagnosis code set?

YES :

STEP 2. M.U.T.-III data list
Check the input signal from the ignition switch (IG1) 
and turn-signal lamp switch.

• Turn the ignition switch to the "LOCK" (OFF) 

position.

• Turn the turn-signal lamp switch (LH) to the ON 

position.

• Turn the turn-signal lamp switch (RH) to the ON 

position.

OK: Normal conditions are displayed for all 
the items.

Q: Is the check result normal?

YES <All the signals are received normally.> : 

Go 

to Step 3.

NO <The ignition switch (IG1) signal is not 
received.> :

Inspection Procedure 9: The comfort flasher does not work normally.

CAUTION

Whenever the ECU is replaced, ensure that the 
input and output signal circuits are normal.
COMMENTS ON TROUBLE SYMPTOM
If the comfort flasher does not work normally, the col-
umn switch or the ETACS-ECU may be defective.

PROBABLE CAUSES

• Malfunction of the column switch

• Malfunction of the ETACS-ECU

DIAGNOSIS PROCEDURE

STEP 1. Check of adjustment details for the 
comfort flasher
Check that the comfort flasher is set to "Operation" 
using the customise function of M.U.T-III.

Q: Is the check result normal?

YES : 

Go to Step 2.

NO : 

Using the customise function of M.U.T-III, 
set the comfort flasher to "Operation."

STEP 2. M.U.T.-III diagnosis code.
When the ignition switch is turned to the "LOCK" 
(OFF) position, check that the ETACS-ECU does not 
set the diagnosis code.

Q: Is the diagnosis code set?

YES :
