Harley Davidson Dyna evolution 1991-1998. Service manual - page 26
(Figure 56). This helps to maintain tire and wheel
balance during reassembly.
3. Remove the valve cap and unscrew the valve core to deflate the tire
or tube. Block the valve core with your hand to keep it from flying out.
4. Press the entire bead on both sides of the tire into the center of
the rim. If the bead is tight, use a bead breaker (Figure 57).
CAUTION Do not attempt to insert the tire irons between the tire bead
and rim flange to break the bead. This can permanently damage both the
tire and rim.
5. Lubricate the beads with a tire lubricant or soapy water.
6. Place rim protectors (Figure 58) along the rim near the valve stem
and insert the tire iron under the bead next to the valve, making sure
the tire iron contacts the rim protectors and not the rim. Step on the
side of the tire opposite the valve stem with your knee and pry the bead
over the rim with the tire iron.
CAUTION Do not use excessive force when prying the tire over the rim or
you may stretch or break the bead wires in the tire. If the tire is
difficult to pry over the rim, lubricate it with the tire lubricant or
soapy water.
7. Insert a second tire iron next to the first to hold the bead over the
rim. Then work around the tire with the first tool prying the bead over
the rim (Figure 59). On tube-type tires, be careful not to pinch the
inner tube with the tools.
NOTE
If you are repairing a flat tire on a tube-type tire, mark the tube
after removing it from the tire. This will help you to find the puncture
hole in the tire.
8. On tube-type tires, use your thumb and push the valve from its hole
in the rim to the inside of the tire. Carefully pull the tube out of the
tire and lay it aside.
