15. Install the bearing caps and bearing cap bolts.

16. Using the special tool, recheck the backlash.

17. Install the axle shafts. For additional information, refer to AXLE SHAFT .  

18. Fill the rear axle housing with 2.37 liters (5.5 pints) with the specified lubricant.  

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION 

AXLE HOUSING 

Removal 

1. Raise and support the vehicle. For additional information, refer to JACKING & HOISTING .  

2. Remove the wheel and tire assembly. For additional information, refer to WHEELS & TIRES .  

3. Mark the driveshaft flange and pinion flange.

4. Remove the four bolts.
