Installation

1. The front of the transmission must be lowered for the transmission to clear the exhaust system during

installation. See Fig. 9 . Continue moving the transmission rearward, while gradually raising the front of
the transmission. As the transmission jack is being raised, move the transmission back and install it in the
vehicle. Align the orange balancing marks between the torque converter studs and the flexplate bolt holes.

2. Remove the special tool. On V6 engine, position the fuel line and bracket. Position the fill tube. Install

the 9 transmission-to-engine bolts. On V8 engines, position the fuel line and bracket. Install the 7

CAUTION: The torque converter cover is piloted into position to the engine

crankshaft by dowels in the rear of the engine block. The torque converter
must rest squarely and loosely against the flexplate. This indicates that
the torque converter pilot is not binding in the engine crankshaft.

WARNING:

The transmission must be secured with a safety chain or strap. The
torque converter is heavy and can result in injury if it falls out of the
transmission. Secure the torque converter in the transmission. If the
torque converter is dropped, a new one must be installed. When installing
a new transmission, install the special tool. See Fig. 8 .
