REAR AXLE BUMPERS 

The rear axle bumpers (4730) are used to prevent metal-to-metal contact between the rear axle and the frame 
(5005). 

REAR SPRING 

Semi-elliptic, leaf-type rear springs are used for the rear suspension. Supplemental air springs are available as 
part of the optional air suspension system.

The shock absorbers (18125) provide the necessary suspension dampening control. 

SUSPENSION FASTENERS 

These fasteners are important parts that can affect the performance of vital components and systems and result 
in major vehicle damage. New fasteners must be installed if the old fasteners are loosened or removed. New 
fasteners with the same part number or an equivalent part must be installed if necessary. Do not use a part of 
lesser quality or substitute design. The specified torque value must be used during assembly to ensure correct 
part retention.

Removal 

All vehicles 

1. Raise the vehicle and install safety stands.  

2. Remove the wheel and tire assembly.  

5 lug vehicles with rear disc brakes 

Remove the rear axle shaft. For additional information, refer to DIFFERENTIALS/DRIVE AXLES. 

7 lug vehicles with rear disc brakes 

Remove the rear brake disc. For additional information, refer to DISC - BLACKWOOD, F150 HERITAGE 
PICKUP & F150 . 

Vehicles with drum brakes 

Remove the rear brake drum. For additional information, refer to DISC - BLACKWOOD, F150 HERITAGE 
PICKUP & F150 . 

All vehicles 

Using C-Frame and Clamp Assembly Tool, press the wheel bolt from its seat and discard. 

CAUTION: Never use a hammer to remove the wheel bolt. Damage to the axle flange, 

hub flange, wheel bearing or hub bearing can result.
