Ford F150 Pickup. Instruction - part 1408

Making Changes To The VID Block

A PCM which is programmed may require changes to be made to certain VID information to accommodate
vehicle hardware. Refer to PCM/MODULE REPROGRAMMING on the Scan Tool.

Making Changes To The PCM Calibration

At certain times, the entire EEPROM will need to be completely reprogrammed. This is due to changes made to
the strategy or calibration after production or the need to reset the VID block because it has reached its limit.
Refer to PCM/MODULE REPROGRAMMING on the Scan Tool.

FUEL SYSTEM SAFETY PRECAUTIONS

GASOLINE SYSTEM

Safe Fuel Handling Practices (Gasoline, Methanol & Methanol Blends)

Fire

z

Report all fires to proper authorities.

z

Flames from methanol or methanol-gasoline blends can be invisible.

z

Know locations of portable fire extinguishers, fire blankets, fire alarms and eye/wash shower facilities
and learn how to use them.

z

Use a "B" or "AFFF" (light water) type fire extinguisher to fight flammable liquid fires.

First Aid

z

If gasoline has been swallowed, do not induce vomiting. Seek medical attention immediately!

z

If methanol or a methanol/gasoline blend has been swallowed, induce vomiting under the direction of a
physician or Poison Control Center. Seek medical attention immediately!

z

When overcome by vapors, if safe, move victim to fresh air. If not breathing, give artificial respiration or
CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) as appropriate. Seek medical attention immediately!

z

If splashed in eyes, flush with large amounts of water for 15 minutes. Remove contact lenses, if worn.
Seek medical attention.

z

If splashed on skin, remove contaminated clothing. Wash skin thoroughly with soap and water.

Health

z

All fuels can be harmful or fatal if swallowed.

z

Be aware, if fuel is swallowed, onset of serious health effects can be delayed 12 to 24 hours.

z

Fuels and products containing methanol (e.g. windshield washer fluid) can cause blindness if swallowed.

z

All fuel vapors can be harmful if inhaled.

WARNING:

Fuel in fuel system remains under high pressure even when engine is not
running. To avoid injury or fire, release fuel pressure from fuel system
before disconnecting any fuel line. To release pressure from system
perform FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELEASE procedure under FUEL
SYSTEMS in appropriate REMOVAL & INSTALLATION article. To avoid
unnecessary fuel spillage and fire hazard, any time fuel lines are
disconnected, ignition switch must be in OFF position unless fuel pump
operation is required for test purposes.

WARNING:

Use care to prevent combustion from fuel spillage. No smoking, open
flames or any kind of arcing.

z

All fuels can be harmful if absorbed through skin.

z

All fuels are irritating to eyes and respiratory system.

z

Some fuels made with gasoline contain benzene which is a cancer causing agent.

Handling

z

Use flammable liquid handling precautions.

z

Wear chemical goggles and nitrile gloves (additional protective clothing and equipment may be necessary
in some instances).

z

Keep flammable liquids in approved, labeled, closed containers.

z

Use in well ventilated areas and control vapors. Be aware that vapors are not visible, are heavier than air,
can travel along floor, and will settle in lower areas.

z

When transferring flammable liquids, bond receiving container to source and ground source to earth.

z

DO NOT smoke or use heat or spark producing equipment near vapors.

z

DO NOT eat, smoke or drink where these products are handled, processed or stored.

z

Never siphon by mouth.

z

Wash hands thoroughly after handling any fuel.

Spills

z

Notify proper authorities in the event of any spill you have not been trained to clean up.

z

Stop, contain, and clean up small spills with an absorbent material.

Inertia Fuel Shutoff Switch Reset Procedure

Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Check for fuel leaks in engine compartment. If no leak is present, reset
IFS switch by pushing reset button on top of switch. Turn ignition switch to ON position or START position for
a few seconds, then to OFF position again. Again, check for leaking fuel.

NATURAL GAS SYSTEM

WARNING:

If you see or smell gasoline at any time other than during fueling, DO NOT
reset Inertia Fuel Shutoff (IFS) switch.

NOTE:

With IFS in CLOSED position, reset button can be depressed an additional 1/16"
against the spring.

WARNING:

Natural gas in fuel system is at high pressure at all times. To avoid injury
or fire, release fuel pressure from fuel system before disassembling any
fuel system component. To release pressure from system, follow
pressure relief procedure. See FUEL SYSTEM VENTING in appropriate
REMOVAL & INSTALLATION article. After performing fuel system

Safe Fuel Handling Practices (Natural Gas)

Fire

z

Report all fires to proper authorities.

z

Flames from natural gas have a Yellow and/or Blue color.

z

Know locations of portable fire extinguisher, fire blankets, and fire alarms and learn how to use them.

z

Use an ABC rated/certified fire extinguisher or fire blanket to fight flammable gas fires.

First Aid

z

If overcome by vapors, if safe, move victim to fresh air. If not breathing, give artificial respiration or CPR
(cardiopulmonary resuscitation) as appropriate. Seek medical attention immediately.

z

For irritated eyes, flush with large amounts of water for 15 minutes. Remove contact lenses, if worn and
seek medical attention.

Health

z

Natural gas (and all other fuel vapors) can be harmful if inhaled.

z

All fuels can be harmful or fatal if swallowed.

z

Fuels and products containing methanol (e.g. windshield washer fluid) can cause blindness if swallowed.

z

All fuels are irritating to eyes and respiratory system.

Handling

z

Be aware of Mercurous Mercaptan "Rotten egg" smell of natural gas.

z

Use flammable gas handling precautions.

z

Keep flammable gases in approved, labeled containers.

z

Use in well ventilated areas and control vapors. Be aware that natural gas is not visible, is lighter than air,
can travel along the ceiling, and may collect in high hollows.

z

When transferring flammable gases, connect vent stack to source, and ground source to earth.

z

DO NOT smoke, or use heat/spark producing equipment near natural gas.

z

DO NOT eat, drink or smoke where fuels are handled, processed or stored.

z

Wash hands thoroughly after handling any fuel.

Leakage

z

Notify proper authorities in event of any leakage you have not been trained to address.

pressure relief procedure, a small amount of pressure 3 psi (21 kPa) will
remain in fuel rail, and high pressure still exists in fuel tanks. Prevent
combustion from escaping fuel; no smoking, open flames or any kind of
arcing.
