Removal & Installation (Expedition & Navigator) 

1. Release fuel pressure. See FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELEASE . Disconnect negative battery 

cable. Raise and support vehicle. Disconnect filler tube and vent hose from fuel tank. Drain fuel from 
vehicle. See FUEL TANK DRAINING . Disconnect the vapor hoses at the rear of the fuel tank. See Fig. 
120 . Remove fuel tank skid plate, if equipped. See Fig. 121 .  

2. Disconnect the vapor hose and the fuel hose(s) forward of the fuel tank. See Fig. 122 . Support fuel tank 

using suitable jack. The location of the fuel vent hose is critical to fuel system operation. Note the routing 
of the fuel vent hose at this time. Remove fuel tank straps. See Fig. 123 . Lower fuel tank one inch. 
Remove the rear left and right sway bar bracket nuts and lower the sway bar. Remove the rear driveshaft. 

3. Loosen the clamp and disconnect the vent hose from the fuel tank vent spout. See Fig. 124 . Disconnect 

the fuel pump electrical connector. Remove fuel tank. To install, reverse removal procedure. Tighten 
fasteners to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Perform after repair procedure. See 
AFTER REPAIR PROCEDURE under EVAPORATIVE EMISSIONS SYSTEMS.
